another thought i'd like to share about the interpretation of this song: one of the things i thought about when i heard this song was Hitler. how the song could be referring to those mindless leaders [[zombie]] that can see all the violence and think of it as nothing, and how they end up killing themselves like Hitler or eventually killed by other people. also, how people blame other innocent people for war or for problems that go on in their lives, when they shouldn't. [[whats in your head?... and the violence causes silence, who are we mistaking?]] and how those mindless leaders, all they can think of is fighting and killing and destruction. i just love this song. amazing anti war message, and all kinds of other messages. just amazing. |

I like what you did here and how you explained it. and i dont think your opinion is off or anything. its just you letting people know what you interpret this song is about. which is great to share that with people, by the way. thanks for doing that. |

i agree with that. very much. Everyone, please try to be as open minded about everyone else's opinion about the meaning of the song. dont call people morons, and dont be ignorant. respect everyone and their opinions. be mature. |

to user Zinbob Dan and his comment written below: **all this schizophrenia bullshit makes no fucking sense to me. i don't want to put it so harshly but i really think everyone who said that is either a fucking moron or wanted to draw attention to their post as someone who knew more than everyone else!!! that being said, i read this as telling the world on the behalf of the irish that "most of us want peace, it's just a few jackfucks who are living in 1916" and to the jackfucks it says "you attack me and my family, but 'it's not me' -- i'm not your enemy, you jackfuck! it's all 'in your head!!!' you are like a reanimation of someone from 1916...in other words, a ZOMBIE!!!" you don't have to agree with me...you're just not allowed to agree with the idiots who said it's about schizophrenia or other mental illness...they're taking the easy way out of analyzing this song!** You do realize you're a fucking moron, dont you? what people are trying to say by referring the song to schizophrenia could be wrong, but i think what most people are trying to say by that is, simply put, "Shell shock". when a person returns from a war, and having horrible visions of deaths and bloodbaths they have seen, just taking over their mind and then they think they're back in the war, acting as if they had a rifle in their hand, when they're really sitting in a restaurant, eating dinner with their family. That has happened to so many people because of war, and if you're that fucking ignorant to just say that "all this schizophrenia bullshit makes no fucking sense to me", then you better get your thoughts together. besides that, i agree with everyone who can relate to this song, whether it be by your ideas of anti war, schizophrenia, shell shock, or a war raging inside of someone. and thanks again to the people who put a bit of history about Ireland and their war and stuff. very interesting and useful pieces of history. and i still love this song. <3 |

I absolutely fell in love with this song when i was ten. and even though i didnt really know what the song was about, i thought it was very anti war, and i love that about it. thanks for the people who posted a bit of history behind the song; i know learned a lot of history in a very short time. and this is most likely one of the best anti war anthems ever. the singer has an amazing voice. she is also one of my inspirations for singing and this song is my inspiration for protesting against the war and letting people know how wrong war really is. in the words of John Lennon: "All we are saying is Give peace a chance." The Cranberries are just absolutely amazing. <3 |
