I don't think i tis a metaphor. The first verse I picture him actually lying in bed trying to sleep but unable to and hearing sirens and contemplating what he is going through. Apparently a loved one was in the hospital with a terminal disease, hence the reference to numbered days numbered small. I think lung cancer is dead on. I think the whole song is about losing a loved one to lung cancer but he is able to continue his life with joy through memory. Perhaps the person has already passed on in the song and the second verse is simply a flashback? The reference to the chapter closing seems to me to represent a chapter of his life that included this loved one. I think the line about the sun burning the shadows out is a metaphor to represent the immense joy that this person had brought to his life and how the joys offset the sorrows of death. I don't need a soul I think shows that he doesn't need anyone else in his life as long as he has (I'm assuming the loved one is a significant other of sorts) her memory. I also don't think that every song written by a person has some real correlation to the writer's life. Some songs are simply framed around an idea or an emotion that is meant to be conveyed. I think that this song (along with many other songs by Relient K) was meant to be such a song. I have no idea what the line about being rebound with better clothes means. But overall I think this song is about the death of a significant other due to terminal disease and the ability for life to continue in joy without that loved one because of all the good times they shared. (I also had a thought that maybe the line about the sun burning the shadows at may be a metaphorical reference to the Son, or Jesus Christ, and the power of His atonement to free us from pains and to "carry our sorrows") |

| Idk what it means when it's talking about a journey... Maybe it's a reference to the band? Idk. But I liked how this whole album reminded me of my childhoo years reading all those read along books on cassette. Good times! Weird thing though was I listened to this cd in the morning for the first time so she should've said good morning instead of good night, but whatever. | |

| I just thought it was really cool how it was like "you'll know it's time to turn the page when you hear this sound" and then it cycled through the intros of the songs. I'm guessing that it was a reference to those read along books where they had like a casette tape and you read along to the book and there was a sound to tell you it was time to turn the page. Just a guess there... but I think the overall meanig of the song is, "hey how's it going here's some music check it out." At least that's my interpretation. And btw cut up angels it is totally a song! It's just more of like a rap song cuz they just speak the words to background music. But rap is music too, right? lol | |
