well, everything everyone else has been writing is reasonable. but i think this is just about the inevitable loss of a lover. it is in both the point of view of the person who left and the one who remained. it also appears as a story of the failing love, how most of them go. "I remember a far away laugh a sweet caresse you'd help me zip up my dress. & I remember your arms wrapped around my neck twenty one shells wrapped in a nest. Endlessness. Didn't last. I won't change given the chance." --the girl is remembering the beautiful moments and how she should have known in the back of her head that it wouldn't last forever, that it was too perfect to last forever. but she won't let what happened change her standing. this is the beginning of falling in love, when everything is perfect and beautiful and flawless. "I remember no place for me to hide. Before you came home at night. & I remember you turnin' out the lights all i ever saw was the red in your eyes. No big surprise. Happened nearly every night your own flesh & blood. I did wonder why." --this is when the problems started. he probably hurt her. physically or mentally, either way. i don't think "your own flesh and blood" has to really mean a family member. maybe just himself. i'm not sure. i don't know about the middle stanza, but the end is the hit of the song, apparently, so i'll talk about that. i think it is the lover who left saying to the one who remained to move on and don't be afraid to love again. just what i gather. there is no fact, only interpretation. |

This song makes me feel at peace. It makes me think of when my best friend/boyfriend died nine months ago. the opening stanza is me saying "i'm gonna die of loneliness" because i miss him so much. the second stanza is him saying "you'll be able to move on and love again as we did." it's a song about hope. simple as that. |
