i just think this song is so beautiful, specially the melody: "the simpler the better"... it gives more importance to the lyrics (which are also extremely gorgeous)... it's the combination of both that makes it a great song.. i can picture the fields of barley like i was there, the wind subtly bending the long stems, the bright summer evening sun shining over the barley making it look like gold.. and it's like i'm playing this movie in my head: the girl walking through the fields, her dress and hair blown by the wind, the guy who's looking at her with loving eyes.. the romantic love-making "in his arms she fell as her hair came down", "feel her body rise when you kiss her mouth"... and the whole 'promising they'll be together forever' part is amazing: "will you stay with me, will you be my love?" .. then he says that he's broken some promises in the past, but that he's really commited this time "in the days still left we'll walk the fields of gold", meaning he will never leave her and they will be happy together.. after a long time, when they are near the end of their lives "the sun goes down", and they remember those summer days with great nostalgy while looking out of the window one summer evening and seeing their children run among the fields of barley, just like they did in the past. They look back at the path their lives have taken, and have no regrets... they were happy, thanks to their everlasting love they "walked in fields of gold" forever... apart from being a lovely song, full of emotion and romanticism.. it's awesome for slow-dancing ;)it's perfect when you just close your eyes, give in to the music, and let your mind fly away to those fields of barley.. I LOVE IT! |

| i can't believe no one has ever commented on this song! i discovered i very recently, and it's become one of those songs that you play over and over, and never get sick of... everything about this song is perfect: the melody is beautiful and the lyrics (even though they are relatively simple and straightforward), i think they're very powerful and carry a lot of meaning... it's about a guy that's deeply in love with the girl who broke his heart (probably after cheating on him "some of us are just too kind, we forgive too much and never speak our minds)... he tried to move on, but she still "has power over him", but finally realizes that there's no point in putting any more effort in trying to get her if she will never love him back "and i don't care about you if you don't care about me"... he accepts the fact that he's still very much in love with her, but that he'll move on eventually "ties of love are strong, but they can be undone" ... so in the end, despite his pain and broken heart, he "turns his heart to something new" ... all i can say is I LOVE THIS SONG! | |
