| The World/Inferno Friendship Society – Only Anarchists Are Pretty Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Vivienne Westwood put this slogan (Only Anarchists are Pretty) on some of her earliest creations. She is credited for giving punk fashion its edgy, slighly sadistic, shocking and above all, controvertial nature. And then she went on to make million dollar wedding gowns. I don't know how that happened exactly. Anyway, the song is self explanatory, but I don't think most people know where the title really came from. | |

I was wondering what this song was about for a long time. Then I went to a World/Inferno show, where they performed it and suddenly it clicked. This song is about the punks! This song is about heading out to a show, staying out way too late and getting back home a total wreck, which is exactly how that night went for me. I literally fell asleep with my boots on and woke up feeling aged when the night was over. It also touches on the way a punk show operates, where everyones crushed together as a big crowd. If you've ever gone to a concert with a mohawk, you know what "stepping out all dressed and returning all fucked up" is all about. But mainly, I think its about people coming together from small towns and cities far and wide to share a good time. lets see, what else. "You get hit pretty hard moving so damn fast": Probably refering to slamdancing. "singing Laments and rowdy songs, hymns about sin": what a lot of punk rock songs are about There are other songs that touch on the punk community on this albumn too, such as "Me and the Mad Monkettes" and "So long to the circus" |
