| I keep trying to decipher what that voice is saying! It is driving me nuts! | |

In the line, "So tell me now, O tell me this: a forest's son, a river's daughter," Colin sings it as is written here, but the lyric book has it reversed: "a river's son, a forest's daughter." I'm wondering if this was just a freak accident or if there is some significance to the reversal? The lyric book also has the following line written, "A willow wand, a will-o-wisp, our ghosts will wander all of the water." I can't be certain, but it seems like Colin is singing "ghost." These inconsistencies have been bugging me... |

| Yea, I'm wondering if it was intentional or not? | |

| Thanks for that quote! I was a little dubious about the Annan river actually drowning them, because it doesn't seem so treacherous or wide from what I've seen in pictures. | |

Okay, bad news. I just checked the actual lyric book from the physical CD, and the lyrics are "A willow on the will-o'-wisp, our ghostS to wander all of the water" DANGIT. I'm back to square one. |

"Tell me now, tell me this, a forest's son, a river's daughter" This line has been bugging me, because obviously William is the Forest Queen's son, but how is Margaret a river's daughter? Doesn't the Queen have the power to let The Rake cross the river initially? Any thoughts? |

| The Decemberists – Like a Lion Lyrics | 16 years ago |

This song is overwhelmingly bittersweet and beautiful. My immediate thought upon reading the title was Machiavelli's belief, "Like a lion, like a fox." But the lyrics don't seem to fit that so well. The only direct correlation is the "hands over hands" line. The lyrics make me think of a baby being born and the way time stops as one realizes that new life has just been brought into the world. Although I'm not sure why the baby would be "black and cold," unless there were complications and the baby died. Which would make sense, seeing as the beeping towards the end reminds me of a heart rate machine after someone has died, due to the time in between beeps. |
