not at all. most manchester orchestra songs have them. this is a post-apocalyptic memoir of someone who died during the trials in revelation. |

| Manchester Orchestra – Play It Again, Sam! You Don't Have Any Feathers Lyrics | 16 years ago |

It's a similar theme to "I Can Feel a Hot One." it's about distancing yourself from God, and the outcomes. Sam is the name of a girl he knew who was making bad choices, and crashed her car while driving under the influence. The running away, that the others do is symbolic as well as literal. they ran away from the scene, but they also ran away from God. Andy prayed they wouldn't stay away from God, but they did. "just like a winter white snow, you've been forgiven" try to fly is acension into heaven. Sam died, and he doesn't want that to happen to him. |

| Manchester Orchestra – I Can Feel a Hot One Lyrics | 16 years ago |

This song has nothing to do with drugs. The lead singer used to be a youthgroup leader. It's clearly a song about his relationship with God. He has felt distant recently, "haven't heard a thing you've said/for at least a couple hundred days" and he wants to reconcile, "hoping you would show your face." Manna is the bread that God made appear with the morning dew to feed the Jews while they were wandering in the desert, they were only allowed two pieces because God said that was "enough." Obviously he wanted more than God could Give him. The Hot One taking him down is the devil. Dreaming that your teeth are being ripped out of your head is a common dream to have when you are participating in self destructive behavior, like distancing yourself from God, in his case. At the end God finally talks to him, giving him dreams of his daughter, which is when he reconciles the relationship and feels love again. A lot of Manchester's songs are about God, and it's rarely ever noticed. Beautiful song though. everything about it. |
