I have loved matisyahu for years now and this song has never grown old to me, i think it impacts me SO much because you can just feel his enthusiasm, you can feel his powerful love for his god and his religion and quite frankly i think it's contagious. maybe that's why so many people are like wtf about his music, because they a) don't expect a hasidic jew to be singing reggae b) for him to be so obviously talented and c) for his music to be so powerful and his voice so beautiful. i'm not religious but i have studied religion in college including hasidic judaism and they are an extremely dedicated and tight knit branch of judaism. that's the only thing that surprises me, that a hasidic jew would put himself out there in that way, but it kind of makes sense because they do the things they do for god and their religion only and screw the rest. he is badass. i have seldom heard a more beautiful voice and though i may not share his religious views, he certainly inspires me in ways that almost no other modern musical artist does. |
