This song is about realizing mistakes in our minds and mindsets. Like being in love with a person, or a place, is often very much an illusion, an illusion that comes and goes... And Sufjan knows that it all eventually goes. These illusions become attachments, and that is why Sufjan cries for freedom from himself. He is realizing that all these material things, like clothes and where he sleeps, don't matter to him. He is also realizing that all things know, that all things have consciousness. When he says "You came to take us..." I think he is addressing something or someone - whether it be a Buddha, or a friend, or a rock, or a flower, or "The Self" - which guides us to enlightenment, by helping us recognize our own mindset and showing us that everything grows, changes, and goes. |

Somewhere in the beginning of a relationship... A man wants to stay in the moment with a woman, and not worry about the past or the future. He wants the relationship to be relaxed and take its time, go with the flow. Although they don't have much together right now, he thinks that the relationship could become anything they want it to be - that it has the potential to be something amazing. This something amazing would involve supporting, inspiring, and helping each other grow deeply. He's wants just to "arrive" with her... to be present with her in the moment, especially those moments where they both grow and change each other and seem to simultaneously arrive at more enlightened state of mind... Maybe he even wants to arrive, simultaneously, at the moment in which they both realize they love each other. How will they know if they love each other? "It's just how it feels." |

"Slip inside the eye of your mind Don't you know you might find A better place to play You said that you'd never been But all the things that you've seen Slowly fade away" Everything exists in our minds, and everything fades away. When we realize this we "find a better place to play." |
