| Bright Eyes – One for You, One for Me Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I think you may have said it without realizing it. "One for the..." = "I and I" = You and me and all the rich and the poor and the evil and the good are one. As Danny says in the final narration "Compassion and mercy" no matter what the situation, we are one. Conor even tosses out the separateness of you and me at the end of the song as well. Conor also describes the fact that we've all strayed so far away from "Oneness." Which is an idea I think crosses any borders of religion or spirituality. |

| Say Anything – Crush'd Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| An oedipus complex is not wanting to have sex with your mother or an unhealthy obsession, but the fact that when a boy is a child, he often dreams of marrying his mother because she is often the main provider in his life. When you get older an oedipus complex is simply the trend that men tend to marry/date people that relate to or remind them of their mother. So when max says that his taste reflects a disturbing oedipus complex, he's saying that Sherri is much like his mother. | |
| E For Explosion – Antarctica Lyrics | 16 years ago |

The lyrics are: Aren't we leaving today? Abandoning the world No more cities... we'll kill technology No more boys no more girls I'd prefer the snow You and I... drown in the blue and cold We'll fall... So alone Teach me how to whisper... Are we leaving today? We're learning to die Learning to solve everything through beautiful goodbyes I'd prefer the snow We'll fall.. So alone Teach me how to whisper... These are 100% correct because they come straight from Jamison himself. This is my favorite song ever and I think I have an pretty accurate meaning behind it. Antarctica is a plea for solitude, but conjoined solitude. (yes, a paradox) He wants to be alone, away from anything and everyone, but he wants to go with the one he loves, he wants to just be alone and be the only two people in the world. Another meaning I have thought of though is suicide. Death is associated with the cold. Drown, blue (face?) and cold are all death related. As well as his want to solve everything (his various everyday problems) through a beautiful goodbye, possibly suicide. He also uses the word "kill" as in "kill technology" I'm sure there are other words he could have used there. He is abandoning the world and escaping the only way he sees fit; suicide. |

| Conor Oberst – Breezy Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| iludora, that is not necessarily true. If in fact The Mystic Valley Band wrote the song before Conor was with them, maybe it was under a different title. Cassadaga, the album by Bright Eyes, (which of course consists of Oberst and various other artists) has "We love you, Breezy, and we miss you!!!" written on the cover and one can only assume that Conor didn't write that on his album because of the MVB's song. Cassadaga was released April '07 and Duim died January of that year, the dates certainly correlate. Regardless of who it's about it's painstakingly obvious what it's about so I'm not going to regurgitate what everyone else has said. But it is a very touching, very sobering song. | |
| JamisonParker – Slow Suicide Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I am an avid JamisonParker fan and have torn apart nearly every word Jamison has said and I think I have a pretty accurate assessment of these lyrics. "We live like vampires"- We(the destructive youth)live in the shadows quiet, slowly dragging people into your destruction, dark, only leaving our coffins (rooms, places of safety) for sustenance. "We love like killers"- Killers don't love. Period, the end. Except in odd cases, and I'm sure he's not referring to those. "We all die like infants"- naive, innocent, young, not understanding the world around us. (notice he brings up innocence in the prechorus) "We trust like mirrors"- We only trust people as much as we can trust ourselves or how confident we are in ourselves. "The songs they sing are in the key of the illusion of pain//And it's irony"-The irony of pain is when you hurt you end up hurting yourself with self-destructive behavior. You get dumped, you drink, you smoke or of course there are more serious things to do. "In the midst of lust and dropping names//The drugs, they numb and they keep us sane"-This one is probably the most confusing, but I see it as what happens when they are using at parties etc. You see someone, you fall in "lust" start dropping names, flirting, then when you get hurt, "the drugs, they numb" and they keep you sane, completing the cycle of getting hurt and hurting yourself. This song is a lot about masochism and of course as the title begs, suicide. This is my favorite song ever, and quite ironically (according to the title and the irony that the song expresses) it has saved me from Slow Suicide... |
