So I kinda have 2 interpretations: The first one was given to me by my boyfriend.. his grandmother recently committed suicide and when he heard this song, it made him think of that. In the first verse it's her words.. Not too far from breaking down, screams inside, come out in a smile... nobody saw this coming. Then in the pre-chorus he picked up on.. tell me how you'd rather die alone than being stuck here with me... In the chorus it's kind of a reminder.. you could never love yourself like I do. Now go down to.. All I've got are pictures to view, for some reason it's supposed to be this way.... My interpretation actually comes from a recent experience with this same boyfriend.. lol I found out that after 6 years of dating, that he was talking to another girl.. nothing was actually happening.... yet, but my opinion is that if I hadn't found out it probably could've gone farther with them. So to me in the first verse its like me saying to him, I've got so much in my head right now, but I just put on a smile, so when will it be my day to open up and am I ever going to get over this? Where in the pre-chorus it's like he's saying it's OK i understand, tell me how much you hated me, tell me how badly I hurt you, say the worst possible thing, IE- die alone w/o me, IE- we're through. But then this verse: If I could shrink it down and put it in your head We made it hurt so much I can't forget the past Just tell me what to say Show me what to do Then I can forgive me and I can forgive you. Clears it all up. Admitting wrong doing and wanting to move on... I guess it really just goes to show music is all up to interpretation. The way it hits you at certain points in your life. Back when we first heard this song a year ago, I really did see the suicide part of it... now I see a different one..... |
