| Five for Fighting – Superman (It's Not Easy) Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I see it as the way people see superman, as an image. they see someone who protects and is indestructible. The song somewhat humanizes him. "Even Heroes have the right to bleed" people see him as somewhat perfect, nothing can touch him. he's not allowed to break or anything, and if you don't snap every once in a while your not human "It's all right, You can all sleep sound tonight I'm not crazy or anything" I also love the part, Wish that I could cry Fall upon my knees Find a way to lie About a home I'll never see" it sort of drives home that he's not human but that he is, he'll never see his true home again, yet why isn't he allowed to cry, and be more human. I don't know, just my two cents |

This is the song that started my love of Pearl Jam. Absolutely amazing song, especially the verse about begin the sun in someone else's sky, just shows how much he really loved her. I agree with zabier that the lyrics sort of just build up to that point and then he just reveals how much she meant to him. Probably my most favorite song of any band. |

| Pearl Jam – Nothingman Lyrics | 16 years ago |

When I first heard this song I thought it was Nothingham and I kinda liked it better that way. I will always hear Nothingham over Nothingman, just the way it is. I feel it's about a divorce/separation and where they lived together/whatnot which was basically no man's land was being referred to as Nothingham "She once believed...in every story he had to tell... One day she stiffened...took the other side..." Refers to her loss of interest in him I especially love the line "Caught a bolt 'a lightnin'...cursed the day he let it go..." He found the love of his life and lost her. The could've been something i think is referring to what there future would've been, perhaps marriage, growing old together, whatever. Bottom line, Great song |

For the most part I kinda agree with you there, It could be interpreted as being about Jesus, except for the very beginning, "Two packs of cigarettes a day The strongest whiskey Kentucky can make Thats a recipe to put a vagabond On his hands and knees" that's the only part that doesn't really jive with the Jesus idea, but yes now that I think about it and listen to it more (a lot more) part of me will think about it being about Jesus. |

First off, just pointing out that there is a mistake in the lyrics "If there was nothing Then there'd be nothing right" should be "If there was nothing wrong..." Secondly, what an amazing song, it's got kinda that southern rock/ballad vibe like in Lynyrd Skynyrd's curtis lowe And i also agree that this is about someone close to him that he knew differently from anybody else. again, amazing song |

First off, this song is beyond words, It's so well written it's unbelievable. I love the imagery of the first part. "Wrap me in a bolt of lightning Send me on my way still smiling Maybe that's the way I should go Straight into the mouth of the unknown" The rest of the song is just as well written too. The meaning to me is pretty self explanitory it's a break-up and there's kids involved, "Never really thought I'd be able To say that ill visit on the weekends" it also seems that they were most likely married, "I finally put it all together, Nothing really lasts forever" assuming he intended to take the long haul with his love, but realized it couldn't last just my two cents so far |
