Taking Back Sunday – Carpathia Lyrics 12 years ago
Personally for me, it's a song about a relationship between two people that was rushed without building a strong foundation. And based on the "I was the mantle...we happened before we knew what was happening" lines, it sounds like he's carrying the brunt of the pain that's occurring.

Maroon 5 – Come Away to the Water Lyrics 12 years ago
I see this as being about the tributes being called away to the games as sacrifices for the sins of their fathers (so to speak). They're lambs because they're young and innocent (for the most part); the line, "come away to the slaughter/To the ones appointed to see this through" further reinforces this idea because the game makers are the ones whose jobs are to make sure kids die in the slaughter of the arena.

I totally agree with you; I didn't realize more people don't see it that way as well.

Bomb the Music Industry! – Fresh Attitude, Young Body Lyrics 12 years ago
You don't like the song just because it's depressing and realistic? He's singing about the anxiety many feel when they see everyone else moving forward with their lives. That overwhelming feeling of mortality is great material for song writing. And how can you complain about a song being depressing when judging from your username, you like a band with its own fair share of depressing lyrics.

Say Anything – Admit It!!! Lyrics 13 years ago
I'm pretty sure this is just a rant against hipsters that also turns into a self-aware bit about how we all jump on the bandwagon about things.

Meh...something like that. I'm too tired to form coherent thoughts.

One of the best songs I've ever heard in my entire life, however. Lyrically and musically.

Seether – Careless Whisper (George Michael cover) Lyrics 14 years ago
Not to sound like my mother, but original still beats this cover and all other rock covers. This is a remorseful song, not an embittered one. And since when does saxophone and beautiful, spine-tingling tenor beat guitar and whatever you call what Shaun is doing. I listened to this song three times and still can't place it. I love Seether's music, I honestly do, but they could have done way better covering this. They don't do the song any justice! If you are trying to get kids of today to learn about the old school stuff, then this is a great learning tool, seriously. If not for sx3 and punk covers of old school rap songs, I wouldn't listen to them.

But let's do better, yes? I can't believe I'm saying this, but I grew up with this song (I'm 17) and love rock and metal, but hate this cover.

I feel this sing is deeper than, "The one that got away" and is more like, "I just fucked this shit up and I really feel bad about it now. Damn, things will never be the same." I imagine that maybe the narrator hooked up with his best friend's girl and tried to play it off like his friend couldn't tell. However, friend is no fool and doesn't appreciate what happened, especially since they were so tight. Friendship ruined and the narrator feels like a douchebag, regretting his actions. Dancing is a metaphor here, as stated previously, and the gender is interchangeable, so have fun with that.

Slipknot – My Plague (New Abuse Mix) Lyrics 15 years ago
This is one of my favorite songs by Slipknot, ever. Besides being related to Resident Evil (FTW!), it just has a pleasant beat and you can listen to it without feeling as much like a raging, hormonal, adolescent. I feel like that enough. This song relaxes me, strangely...

Slipknot's lyrics are just angry teenagers. Linkin Park's lyrics are more like the sad, lonely, hurt, and frustrated teenagers. Thing is: they both display feelings the average 13-18 year old feels during school. I know this because I'm a fan of both bands and still in school. I can relate to each bands songs, but know what?

I can at least understand what Linkin Park says most of the time, which helps me more than Slipknot.

Musically, they're two different sub-genres of metal, so let's not compare them and their musical stylings. LP is known for being rapcore, Slipknot is known for being pissed off. We accept it and move on.

Linkin Park – And One Lyrics 15 years ago
It's about being hurt by someone you trusted/cared/loved and keeping your distance from them afterwards, even when they try to apologize and make amends.

Fort Minor – Slip Out The Back Lyrics 15 years ago
I wrote a story based off this song. I interpreted it as possible suicide:

That's why I
Slipped out the back before you knew I was there
I know you felt unprepared
But every single time I was around I'd just bring you down
And I could tell that it was time to be scared
That's why I
Slipped out the back before you knew I was there
And I know the way I left wasn't fair
I didn't wanna be around just to bring you down
I'm not a hero but don't think I didn't care

Suicide isn't fair to the people you leave behind and no one is ever prepared for such. Usually a person who is depressed can bring other people down and that causes the person who is feeling suicidal to want to die even more, knowing they're hurting others they care about. They care, so they leave. Otherwise, the song is just working up to that with the second verse talking about knowing when to quit, the third about life being hard. I don't want to say I doubt Mike was suicidal when he wrote this song, but then again the man has been writing for years, not just since Hybrid Theory. It might have just been collecting dust and he decided to put it on the album.

N.E.R.D. – Jump (feat. Joel & Benji Madden) Lyrics 15 years ago
It might not be exactly about suicide, but it definitely can allude to that.

The theme of the song is to get away from your problems and what you don't like, basically to escape. So suicide is a form of escape (jumping off something). Running away seems to be what they talk about (jumping the fence, escape), though. Either way, it's a wonderful song to listen to when you feel like jumping yourself.
