| Death Cab for Cutie – Your Heart Is an Empty Room Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Although it could be about a girl I want to change the perspective a little. I think this song is about loneliness. What he describes is exactly how it feels when you feel disconnected from the rest of the world, alone, and unsure of what to do with yourself. Things meaning absolutely nothing to you all you really care about is love friendship and personal relationships. You long for these things but ti seems they are completely unattainable (she stopped running months ago). When he talks about home, I took it as home being away from the world, new people, and new experiences. Being away from it being a good thing. When your home all the time just sitting alone, you lose sight of what the world is and you miss opportunities. |

If you compare Daylight and Night Light it is crazy! The "Life is not a bitch part" and the "origami" sections are beautiful in both songs. I've also noticed that Aesop refers to himself constantly as an asshole throughout many of his songs....I wonder whats behind that. Like in Daylight, the chorus is still talking about expressing his daily experiences through hip hop and his poetry, here... 'All I ever wanted was to pick apart the day Swallow up the pieces Spit 'em at your species' same idea, but its a more in your face way of expressing himself. |

I first read these lyrics completely confused at what Aesop is talking about but I agree with some of you when you say its about trying to pursue the American Dream or what the American Dream really is. He uses a lot of metaphors about the traditional American Dream, but changes specific words of them to prove his point that trying to make it isn't how they make it seem. 'This origami dream is beautiful but man those wings will never leave the ground Without a feather and a lottery ticket, now settle down' I think of origami as making something beautiful out of paper: something ordinary and available to everyone. A metaphor for the American Dream. The wings could be referring to the origami bird's wings, and he's saying that it's impossible to accomplish your dreams without enough money, which no one has. 'All I ever wanted was to pick apart the day, put the pieces back together my way.' I'm thinking is referring to him making sense of the world through hip hop, his own poetry and lyrics. 'And if one night in Gotham without the wretched Houston we have a problem Dispatch a task of infested patch of city goblins Who split how many freaks with box cuts of a high road bellow Heads ripped! Watch red bricks turn yellow' Gotham is a metaphor of a corrupted city, like in Batman. City goblins could be referring to those who commit crimes in the city and halt the American Dream, making society go the opposite direction of where it needs to go. What I love about this song as that every stanza can be analyzed to a T, and you find a deeper meaning to each stanza every time you listen to the song! He's brilliant.... |

| The Dodos – Red and Purple Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think that this song is supposed to be sung from from the soldier who is fighting in WWI. He seems to be singing to his love. He misses her and wants to her to fight with him in the trenches. I think that purple goes with red because red would represent both love and bloodshed, purple might represent purple like a purple heart, awarded to those who have died fighting. He dies in battle, and only the purple heart is brought back to her. "Say You'll Never Leave Us" might refer to him protecting and watching her even after he dies. | |
