This song obviously isn't about AIDS, because he did not have, or at least know if he had, AIDS or HIV at that time. However, that is not to say that the song cannot be interpreted in this way. A song or a story doesn't always mean to everybody what the writer intended it to mean, audiences infer their own meanings, and the AIDS analogy does not only fit well with the lyrics, it is also relevant to Freddie Mercuries own life and death. AIDS is still a massive issue which affects many people, so forgive them for finding solace in this song. |
