It's definitely one of Incubus' best in my opinion. What's funny, is I didn't like the song when it first came out. Although there's no denying the song is probably somewhat political in meaning, there's definitely a lot of undertone to suggest something else. For instance, I can tie this song into my own personal life. A megalomaniacal person is one obsessed with greatness, and dabbles in excessive delusions of grandeur. My best friend, who is also my ex, is dating a complete bum right now, albeit he happens to think very highly of himself. I can only stand by and watch her lose a little of herself every day because of her love for him. He's a dedicated and passionate musician, but as with all artists, the only thing he can completely devote himself to and truly love, is his art. He will be knocked off his high horse one day, and if I'm fortunate enough, it will be me. "If I met you in a scissor fight I'd cut off both your wings on principle alone On principle alone" ......and I certainly would, homeboy. |

I can relate to this song so much. We can definitely agree that it's about a relationship for sure. But I think, to sum it up shortly, that she breaks up with him (runs away), realizes that she needs him as well, and everything turns around for the better. (and everything will turn around, she becomes so serious). |
