I think the song is just about leaving the nest. Getting ready to leave where you grew up and move onto the next chapter in your life, and at the same time, the fear of what the next chapter holds. Speaking as someone who came very close to being a teenage runaway (my friends convinced me to stay at the last moment) this song hits home; the feeling of saying goobye to your closest friends, the fear of being on your own with no one to help you, looking at the pictures of being younger, this song is almost the exact feeling for when i almost left, it even brings back the memory of staring at the "welcome to Avon Lake" sign, almost terified to even step across the train tacks marking the boarder of my town. |

Weather Avoid One Thing or Souls did it better is mostly opinion. but to me, in terms of melody, souls did it better, the flow was better, especialy at the last verse "Not a friend til the end No, she's never coming back again Know what's on my mind and in my heart" you can feel a sort of pain in seeing a friend runaway, you're happy they're leaving their horrible life, but sad you know you may never see them again. But, honestly, Avoid One Thing made the tone better, especialy in not changing the last verse, yes alot of abused teens run away from home, but the reality is most stay home and take it day after day, and with the last verse with a happy melody, you'd expect change, you'd expect sheena to finally leave, but in the end, she stays. Which is kind of like like itself, it's bad, you want change, you want improvment, but you can only keep your happy tone and hope it gets better someday. |

i think the meaning is rather obvious, it is about how being at home brings feelings/memories of pain and sorrow and it is about a girl who cant deal with the feelings so she runs away and starst drinking, doing drugs, and having one night stands to try and forget everything |
