| HIM – Tears on Tape Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I believe this song is about empathy. We're all alone in the middle of the storm of life, 'lonely and afraid', looking for ways to survive it all, and the moments when we connect with each other, when we follow the pain into each others hearts - perhaps through music that speaks to everyone's pain together - are what give us enough hope to "convince us to keep breathing on." | |

What a wonderful interpretation! I love it, my first thought was also a reference to the Goddess. I think the song is maybe a little more metaphorical than that, where the Goddess is a woman, or woman is a metaphor for the Divine Feminine - indicated most blatantly by the line "she moves in mysterious ways" (a play on the old Christian phrase "The Lord works in mysterious ways", which is a reference that a much wider modern audience might understand); I don't think it needs to be about a specific mythology, but I definitely think that a man's love for a woman is being compared to a man's worship of the Goddess. Great call! And don't worry so much about what Christians think, if they have a problem with it, that's THEIR problem; there is no crime in finding beauty in Pagan imagery ~ in fact, some would say its only natural. ;) Music transcends religion, it has a sanctity all its own; if people let their dogma get in the way of that, then they are the ones missing the point! =) |

| Sirenia – The Other Side Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| The song is either straightforward, about the death of a loved one, or, the option I prefer, its maybe about someone saying good bye to their hopes and dreams that she had as a child - the little sister is herself, and she's giving up on her hopes and dreams; saying that that child inside has died, and she's sending her to the other side, which seems better than "the void called life" that she's mired in. She keeps hearing her dreams calling, but knowing they're dead, by 'sending them to the other side', she keeps them pure and sort of saves that innocent younger self from the tainted, hopeless world she now lives in. IDK if that's possibly what it really means, but that's how I heard it. | |
| HIM – Venus (In Our Blood) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
This song reminds me of a piece of poetry by Rimbaud: "I believe in You! I believe in You! Divine Mother! Aphrodite of the Seas! Oh, life is bitter Ever since another god has harnessed us to his cross! But it's in you, in you, O Venus, I believe! Yes, Man is weak and ugly and doubt assails him, And he wears clothes because he is no longer chaste..." --Rimbaud The poem and the song are saying the same basic thing: that he rejects the culture of religious shame surrounding sex and venerates Venus, who is both sexual and sacred, and pure in her sexuality because she is unashamed. |

| Slipknot – Wait And Bleed Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I'm pretty sure this song is about drug use. The song mentions having the shakes, which is a sign of withdrawl, and talking about a Manchurian candidate is a clear reference to opiates. Re-read the lyrics in that frame of reference and they fit pretty well. | |
| Marilyn Manson – Arma-Goddamn-Motherfuckin-Geddon Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I'm pretty sure this song is mocking sensationalism in the media. The title (sans language) is Arma-geddon, the end of the world. He's being ironic, pointing out how the media always blows things out of proportion, making everything that happens seem like its the end of the world. Conversely, he might be saying that the corrupt media might help bring about the end of the world. Probably a bit of both. Further evidence is in the lyrics: 'Forcery, taxes, facelifts, abortion, nervous breakdance, satanic girls gone wild'; -all things you might hear about in infomercials or on CNN 'Now the TV set’s a sharp and cold depression'; -that's self explanitory, I think 'Pointless intervention, illegal separation'; -the sort of mind-numbing white trash stuff you see on the talkshows 'I want my lawyer, "we’ve got a situation"' -think FCC and other forms of censorship, controling the content of what can and can't watch. 'On the news, or is it the noose?'; -to say the news is used as a means of control through fear, and this also goes back to what Manson said about the Columbine shootings - the media gave those boys exactly what they wanted (fame) by plastering their faces all over the tv. 'The same results may vary, Side effects all vary'; -word play to mock the commercials pushing prescription drugs that saturate the airwaves 'Fuck the goddamned TV and the radio'; -he's saying FU to the mind numbing, mind controling media. 'and fuck making hits, I’m taking credit for the death toll'; -his claim that he's not going to be a part of the problem, but rather a part of the solution/revolution. 'First you try to fuck it, Then you try to eat it' -when was the last time you saw an effective commerical without either sex or food in it? 'If it hasn't learned your name, you better kill it before they see it' -I think this might have to do with censorship - if you see something on TV you don't like, kick up a fuss about it so that it gets censored, effectivey 'killing' it before, say, your children see it. He may even be refering to himself and his music. It also deals with secret shame - destroy what you're ashamed of before it gets out. So yeah, it's about the media. If you read "The Long Hard Road Out of Hell", he talks about his inspiration for 'Cake and Sodomy' being TV, and about a skit they did on stage, where a girl stuffed a pillow up her shirt to look pregnant - she was ironing a flag with a swastika on it while watching a flickering TV screen. Then she climbed up on the ironing board and pretended to give herself an abortion, then proceeded to wrap the 'fetus' in the Nazi flag and hold it reverently out to the TV screen. It was a metaphor for how parents sacrafice their children to the facist mind-fucking pseudo-babysitter that is television (those weren't his exact words, but it was something close). I'd say he might have it in for the media, just a little. Can you blame him? |

| Disturbed – The Night Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I think this song is about facing the darkness within. Mark Twain once said "Every person is a moon, with a dark side which he never shows to anybody." There is darkness in every person, but we spend so much time trying to deny it and fight against it that we waste our lives in the process. The darkness is part of us, so without it, we can never be whole, destined to spend our lives searching for what we are missing because we can't believe that what we are missing is that other piece of ourselves that we are so desperate to deny. I believe this song is about accepting that darkness within yourself in order to find salvation. It's about yin and yang, about finding harmony within the balance between good and evil, love and hate, light and darkness. It's about embracing the darkness within, in order to walk in the light. |

Sing it to me? Yes. I'd die happy. Propose to me? Not so much - I don't even know him, and I'm betting you don't either. Sexy as he is in every way, it would be kind of creepy... But he can sing to me all he wants! ^^ |

No, he's not gay. Traditionally, rockstars wearing make-up was referred to as 'glam', but I can't see that term being applied to him. He's been quoted as saying that he got into wearing make-up in performance from watching bands like Kiss and Black Sabbath, but that as he's matured, he uses it less and less. And Ville Valo is the sexiest thing on two legs. If you disagree, then more sexiness for the rest of us ^^ |
