| Seal – Kiss From A Rose Lyrics | 17 years ago |

This song is packed with meaning and symbolism. A stellar song from one of the best artists out there. First off, it is clear to me that he says "kiss from a rose on the GREY". I have seen him live a number of times, and he always says GREY. GRAVE would perhaps be more meaningful, but he does say GREY. "ROSE" of course represents a woman. "Kissed by a ROSE on the GREY" means that a woman came along and brightened up his cold heart. "When it snows, my eyes become large and the light that you shine can be seen." SNOW, representing coldness (confusion, lack of clarity, etc) and EYES as everyone knows are the 'pathway to the soul'; these two things togther indicate that this woman is like a guiding light when things get crazy in his life. "Love remained a drug that's the high and not the pill." Aha! So it's not a song about illegal drugs, it's about the very common and legal drug called LOVE! Who has never been high on that? Anyone? "Now that your ROSE is in bloom a light hits the gloom on the GREY." A very eloquent and satisfying way to describe romantic love. |

I have listened to this song many times since I purchased the album a decade ago, and what I have taken from it is that the author had someone he loved who died suddenly. The last time he saw this person, he was mad at him/her. "When just a touch of love is all the problem needed, And when you hurt someone so much and still they die loving you." Any thoughts? |
