Wow, I thought I wouldn't be alone in my interpretation, but I haven't seen it in any of the comments so far (or I missed it). I always thought that the lyrics were religious/or at least alluding to the (non) existence of a deïty. Here's my take (accompanied with lyrics as I heard them): > The waiting drove me mad...you're finally here and I'm a mess This could be alluding to the coming of God (not literally, but more of a hypothetical/"what if" scenario) > I take your interest back...can't let you roam inside my head > I don't want to take what you can give... > I would rather starve than eat your bread... If, hypothetically God would appear, he would tell God he'd have no more interest, and that he was fed up with the pondering on whether or not he existed in the first place. The bread obviously refers to Jesus breaking up bread in to multiple pieces. > I would rather run but I can't walk... > Guess I'll lie alone just like before... 1.) This could be alluding to Jesus' supposed healing powers. But Eddie is having none of it, and he'll rather stay crippled then "be healed" 2.) "just like before" could also mean: I came on this earth alone, and I'll stay alone, untill the end. > I'll take the firmist path...oh, and I must refuse your test > A-push me and I will resist...this behavior's not unique Eddie doesn't want to take the alledged tests of God (commandments and what have you). If God exists and these were true test that God want you to take/obide by, it's all but natural to refute this, for it is preposterous to expect this from human beings. > I don't want to hear from those who know... > They can buy, but can't put on my clothes... Eddie doesn't want to hear from evangelists who think they "know" the so called truth. > I don't want to wait for them to walk... Eddie doesn't want to wait (for eternity) to finally see someone get healed by a miracle. > Never would have known of me before... Ps.: Why do these people want to convert him anyway? They would have never known of his existence, if it weren't for pure coïncidence. (This is especially true for people of regions that don't even have access to scriptures) > I don't want to be held in your debt... > I'll pay it off in blood, let I be wed... > I'm already cut up and half dead... > I'll end up alone like I began... Eddie doesn't want to be held accountable by a supposed deïty. If the deïty truely exists, and this deïty trylu expected him to obide, then so be it. Life wasn;t all to good to begin with anyway, so how much worse can it get? And again: he was born alone to begin with, he'll just end up alone when he dies again. > Everything has changed, absolutely nothing's changed > Take my hand, not my picture, spilled my tincture Not sure what this could mean. > I don't want to take what you can give... > I would rather starve than eat your breast... < All the things that others want for me... > Can't buy what I want because it's free... (2x) > Can't be what you want because I'm... Not sure about this either > I ain't s'posed to be this far > Oh, to live and die, let it be done > I figure I'll be damned, all alone like I began... Again, alluding to coming alone to this world (doomed to die to begin with) and dying all alone again. > It's your move now... > I thought you were a friend, but I guess I, I guess I hate you... Well, supposed God... I've had my say on the matter... now it's your turn to have your say. Eddie used to think (probably in his naïve childhood) that a God should be a good spirit, but he found out this supposed God isn't that great. |

I think the lyrics need some improvement. This is my interpretation: He wants and it flows Anything gold Sell 'm little dimes They're not on fire Decorated lies This will be the time Where something is right Baby come on now I hit the wall, hit the wall and what about it? I hit the wall, hit the wall and what about it? I hit the wall, and the wall and what about it? Off on the wall, and the wall and what about it? One month and it goes, Son you're too slow I want to let you try You're not on fire Check the beat on time This will be a lie Sounded like a song Baby come on now Where you headed, the time clew What I lost and it's all we can do I know they don't belong I know that it's all up to you You're used to havin' it all and it's all gone You're used to havin' it all and it's all gone I hit the wall, and the wall and what about it? I hit the wall, and the wall and what about it? Where you headed, the time clew What I lost and it's all we can do I know they don't belong (Hanging on a wire, and I got laid off) I know that it's all up to you (No more tripping on the wagon, and I just stand tall) You're used to havin' it all and it's all gone You're used to havin' it all and it's all gone |
