The Faint – I Treat You Wrong Lyrics 17 years ago
This is the perfect song for me and my girl. At some point we lose sight of what we were fighting about, but continue to argue ABOUT the argument itself even though we know it's just silly at that point.

Also, the writer even knows that the topic of argument is so insignificant, but can't let it go.

"I've got to show you how you're wrong
Does the topic even matter?
Why's my throat getting sore?"

This song shows you just how important the art of debating really is. The writer seems to be attacking the other person rather than trying to get the point across in a calm fashion. It's more about passion rather than actually winning the debate.

Just an amazing song if you feel it reflects you sometimes.

The Faint – I Disappear Lyrics 17 years ago
I might have to agree with Cool Coz on this one. The reason I believe it is Salvia, or some other smoked hallucinogen, is because of the line:

A burst of black
A breath of smoke

When you take a nice deep hit, and it is probably referring to Salvia, you "see" a burst of black when the drug enters your system. Then, obviously the breath of smoke line is him exhaling the hit. Just what I read into it...but just try to come up with better proof than that.

Elaborate please. What makes you think that, or where did you "hear" this?

The Faint – Forever Growing Centipedes Lyrics 17 years ago
I don't think The Faint writes anything by accident. I do love how deep everyone went on this. Any more thoughts? I never read the book that was referenced, but maybe I should give it a look now.

I love that interpretation. That sounds about right.

Well Conor was part of The Faint when they were called Norman Bailor. And this is definitely one of my favorite songs by The Faint. I think its about the end of the world, or at least earthquakes on a pretty large scale.

So when will electronica sell out and become the new "punk?" Has it already?

The Faint – Cars Pass in Cold Blood Lyrics 17 years ago
I think that this song is obviously about an accident where the car is on the side of the road and in flames. The writer sees the ambulance approaching so he tries to pull over to let the ambulance pass, but the person in the car behind him is actually trying to pass him and not at all concerned about the ambulance or the car, or cars, in the accident. Just involved in his own life and wanting to get where he wants to go.

I cant tell if the automobiles are slowing down because the burnt car is actually in the road, or if they are only stopping to watch the fire. Either way, the burnt car is the reason for the traffic back up.

I also love the lines, "I see a car with an urge and a driver to control it. He's carried away because what he does is more important" and "I had a terrible urge, but no driver to control it. Don't get carried away, what he does is not important."

He first judges the car behind him for not controlling his urge to pass the other cars because he feels that he is special and has more important things to do than everyone else in front of him. Then the writer expresses that same urge to cut him off to prevent him from getting to where he wants to go, but then calms himself and reminds himself that what the guy in the car behind him does isn't as important in the "grand scheme of things," and it isn't worth risking cutting him off so they both end up blocking the ambulance. The ambulance that is in fact the most important car on the road at that moment hands down.

The Faint – Call Call Lyrics 17 years ago
From what I gather, this song is about a person close to the song writer that died due to a doctor error? He is also questioning the disclaimer that patients are required to sign that basically waives the surgeon of any responsibility.

Anyone have anything else?

The Faint – Birth Lyrics 17 years ago
To even suggest that this is a simple song about child birth is ridiculous! To me this song is dead on about how incredible it is that you and I are able to sit here and type these comments. The journey from your dad's sack to your first post-birth inflection is taken for granted each and every day, and The Faint thought you might want to think about it a little deeper. There are so many words just describing how unique of a process birth really is.

In the beginning there was semen - Self explanatory
In a deep mouth of flesh - Scrotum
At the crest I traveled - The crest of the penis aka pee-hole
On a wave of virile mess - The ejaculation

Through a tunnel of mucus - The vagina
And on toward a vault - The egg
With tourists and traffic - It's you and 40 million to 600 million of your siblings racing towards the finish line!
I paced myself - He was the tortoise

Not "I" as my whole self - Just one "half" of himself
Just the half that I had - Just the one "half" of himself that he was
Before greeting the rest - He made it to the egg!!
Of my better half - Didn't like his father as much as his mother apparently

A connection was made - Sperm fertilized egg, or mom and dad's "sexual" connection?
Through the shared love of science - Science tells us sperm and egg meet, out comes baby, or parents were scientists?
And vows were taken - Science vows to be consistent, so sperm and egg meet, baby comes out, or parents got married?
A seed was hired - There was only one position to fill, and out of all the applicants one was chosen

I should have noticed the beauty
And not how it hurt
Wet like a cherry
In a bloodbath of birth

The whole ordeal is awe inspiring to me...

The Faint – Ballad of a Paralysed Citizen Lyrics 17 years ago
Way to elaborate on your point toclafane. "unbelievably dumb" and "Bleh, melodrama" really sold me on not liking this song anymore. In addition, maybe you don't like the song anymore because you can't interpret it correctly. No where in the song does it say that the lifeguard was a hero, and the lifeguard in fact didn't even save anyone.

The Faint – Ballad of a Paralysed Citizen Lyrics 17 years ago
I disagree. The "elemental line" they are referring to is most definitely the line between the elements gas (oxygen), and liquid (water). Also, I think the speaker is in fact the lifeguard. When you refer to yourself at a specific age, you would say, at (whatever age), then go on with your story. So at age 17, he was a lifeguard perched above the chlorine floor. It is a dramatic line in a dramatic story from his past. Plus, the next line goes right back to referring to himself/herself as I. It is a bit confusing, but the speaker never really refers to him/herself in the third person. Its just a case of dramatic writing I think.

Although most of the song sounds very depressing, I think it is made to make you appreciate life and to not "sweat the small things." Whether this was based on an actual event or not, most people shouldn't bitch about how bad they have it because someone else in the world ALWAYS has it worse than you.

I'm paralysed and things could change for you as well
You're not so bad off now, you can move anything you need

The song very very clearly says move if you listen to the album version.

John Mayer – Come Back To Bed Lyrics 17 years ago
John's so right!! Women are so annoying! I NEVER know what I said wrong, yet they get pissed and don't tell you why!

Just kidding, kinda...

"I survive on the breathe you are finished with"

and

"dont leave me 98 and 6 degrees of separation from you babe"

are my favorite lines in this song. sfAMCfan46 is correct about the 98.6 and 98 and 6. In math the word and is used when reading a decimal.

In addition to the great lyrics, I feel that the guitar solo on the album version speaks just as loudly as the lyrics. When I listen to the guitar solo I hear the "couple" arguing. The high pitch of the woman's voice staying the same restating her point over and over or denying she is upset, yet pouting and not "coming back to bed." The lower pitch is the guy asking over and over in different ways what's wrong, trying to get it out of her. Then the solo ends with them both making sweet music together. The guitars go from two distinguishable notes into a beautiful harmonious riff. It was beautiful the first time I translated that. Not sure if thats what John was going for, but it seems like something he would do. Really talented and intelligent people have a reason for doing everything...

The Faint – A Battle Hymn for Children Lyrics 17 years ago
I completely agree with OKRadiohead, and emphatically disagree with staygoldgreen. I don't quite understand the logic of having to make "war" in order to have peace in any aspect of life. You are defining war as violence that stems from disagreements it looks like. When you disagree with anyone in your life you are saying that you need to make war before anything can be settled? Calm before the storm type deal. Why not just have a discussion regarding what is bothering either or both sides? There does not need to be any "war." I do understand that you are only dissecting one line from the song, and then voicing your own personal belief. I would just like to argue the other side since I feel differently.

In addition, I truly don't believe that conservatives want the same peace as liberals. Liberals want unanimous world peace, which will happen in the future by the way due to our continued evolution, without having war. Conservatives use war as a vail for profits and boosting the American economy. Sorry, but thats not the same thing to me. There are more lines in the song that back up this theory of conservative America manipulating the public to believe and follow blindly. Case in point, the entire last verse:

You know how hate takes shape
Don't hide those guilty eyes
You gave us guns for toys
Imposed beliefs then pride
We were taught that God prefers the U.S.A.
Just like the billboard sign: "This is God's country"
If it's true that God roots for the U.S.A.
Is every bomb we drop in God's name

That is clearly about how the "powers that be" try to manipulate the population by turning war into a sport or contest, and do so KNOWINGLY. It's my god against yours. How childish. Also, in the future humans will evolve from god-fearing creatures and follow science.

Please don't help them turn us into a Fasciinatiion...
