Yeah I agree, I think the narrator was an enabler for his friend's addiction in the past. Maybe he was a drinking buddy? That's why he was "the one worth leaving". For me the lines: "Smeared black ink Your palms are sweaty And I'm barely listening To last demands" summon an image of the narrator's friend nervously reading a list of rules of how they should interact from now on - things that must be done so the narrator's friend can stay sober. |
