| This is a horrible reaction to this song and a situation like this. Coincidentally, it's kind of a juvenile reaction. I really hope her son didn't respond in this way (I think he was 19 or 20 by the time this song was released). I don't think any sane person–even adolescents–would react to a song like this in this way. It's a lament for herself, her choices, and their affect on her son's life. Are laments ever patronizing? | |

"Singing, I miss you" is a reference to the dead in the preceding line. Dragging out the dead Singing, "I miss you" "[While] dragging out the dead/ [I am/you are/we are] singing, [']I miss you[']." It's all in commas. |
