As a very general analysis, i think this song is about him deciding that he's not going to get so wrapped up in the girl that he loves as he was before.

I don't interpret it in a sarcastic way as such .. I agree with the idea of the song being about him being sort of pathetic about the relationship and maybe feeling sorry for himself even though he knows it's all his fault that it's gone wrong. I think there's a lot for reference to bravery and his lack of it, maybe he's being cowardly. The title, for a start, is a contradiction. Lions are categorically big, bold and brave - maybe he thinks he's strong but he's not. This sounds kind of silly but i see lots of references to lions; settling scores, boldness, maybe even the line, 'learn from your mother or else spend your days biting your own neck' could refer to a way a lioness picks up their cubs by the neck? I dunno, like maybe he needs to start doing things for himself instead of sitting around moping about what's he's doing wrong. I'm just playing with ideas really... |

Yeah that sounds about right, although maybe that's taking it too literally. Lol. I think the chorus could also be suggesting that they only have a memory of what they had and while she's gone it'll be a glitch in his mind but if that's all it is then he would get over it because it's nothing special? |
