Oedipus came to mind when I first heard this, especially with lines like "eat up your shame, you did not choose to be this way" and "you cannot choose her love, oh no." But I think it just has more to do with struggling with the type of love held for family? There's definitely a negative feel towards family. I guess the last two lines show how that's better than nothing, though. |

The last line there could possibly be related to religion because it references being saved. Otherwise, I've always felt that this song meant that the cons of a relationship have started outweighing the pros. And while there are intense ups and downs, she's concluded that she'd be happier if she were out of it. |

I think you've got the gist of it. I think it's just someone not questioning themselves and being close-minded. The "hungry crowd" is what confuses me a bit; maybe they're willing to believe and eat up whatever someone has to say, no matter how absurd it is. Like corruption, yet unintentionally harmful because the man's ignorance cancels out the sly characteristics of a corrupter. |

Please, no matter how much you like this song, stop talking about how clever Britney is. Her vocals are the only contribution to her music. And please stop saying that people are just jealous of her. That's a horribly weak comeback. It's very possible, especially in this case, to simply dislike someone. If you've noticed what's been going on with her for several years, you'll understand why it's nearly impossible to be jealous of her. |
