ahh memories, David Berman and the Silver Jews "Steve, it's because people leave and no highway will bring them back." imagery we can all identify with. metaphors we all understand. is that not the definition of good writing? |

I would like to add, along with most other posters, that this IS my favorite song of all time. better than anything on "Exile" "Pet Sounds" "Nebraska" "Loveless" "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" or by Bob, The Beatles.... you get it right? I heard Phil stopped playing this live because he broke down in tears. the production is flawless, then again i tend to like the lo-fi feeling of every song of his. I'm floored every single time i listen to this song/ album. I try not to listen to it often because Phil's longing can easily catch me off guard. this is certainly a dream/ daydream about first/ young love, right? |

| Bon Iver – For Emma Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
this song is a memory the lyrics are not actually what was said at the time they convey the chronology of his memory essentially: when he thinks of his break up, he thinks of walking with her in the snow--> the essence of their conversation--> when they parted ways (Running Home)--> a few of her last words him: seek the light = change your mind girl her: ...my knees are cold = I'm making an excuse to leave now the last line simply means their lives went separate directions |
