This song seems to dance around the attraction between two people just meeting at a bar. "Just as" and "Before" are the two phrases used to indicate the timeline of the night. As it seems to me, there's a guy and a girl at a bar with initial attraction, he gives her his number, they start drinking and she's getting drunk. He is imagining that they'd go back to his place and do it. However, "She never really got him there". "Before she's had too much, she'd come back in and focus again" and this is when she might of realized that she shouldn't go back to his place. Prehaps he tells his friends they DID get there, where as "Words are blunt instruments.. A sawed-off shotgun". Basically, since I really don't like thinking about narrating the timeline as "This happens, then this happens, then this happens" etc, I like to think that its about an initial attraction between two people at a bar, and just the feelings as the night progresses. And sorry for my terrible quoting. |
