"My Name is Jonas" and "Across the Sea" are definitely two of my heart songs. I first heard them when I was a teenager and will love them until I'm an old man. I dig the subtle reverb effect they put on the word "radio". Great song! |

Good point, GreenCorn. I wondered about the "You're not really mad at Iran or Afghanistan" part. At first listen, I assumed maybe it was just about an average middle aged working man stuck in a routine he's starting to hate. Like it could be any one of us. But that first line suggests it could be about a soldier. Possibly an Iraq vet. I always struggle with musicians telling working people they shouldn't waste their lives at their jobs. For many, this is not a choice. For many others, BEING ABLE to work is a gift. |

Very simple yet very poignant lyrics. Pretty much sums up how I felt from age 22 to 25, especially this verse: "Friday night, steppin out and talkin to the same "So, how's your family?" "How was school?" Conversation strain. Boredom, television, alcohol, losing faith...Everything about these lyrics reminds me of why I love this band. The sigh is also fucking perfect! |
