the first time i heard this song was when i was in my friends room. and i read an awful email they wrote about me. i cried at that moment and this was playing, i couldn't believe at that point the song played. it was about 4 in the morning and i slept the till 6pm while placing this song on repeat. when i got up, i looked at my friends and didn't say a word even till i left the place. and that was the end of our friendship. i literally felt like i woke up from a bad dream. like in the song, i felt like flying up and down. it was more like trying to figure out what is going on, what did i do wrong you know? just like the song, i hated people. but this was people you trusted. and at the point of my life, i was done trying and fighting. not that i couldn't bother, i was tired of being in this type of chaos. but the friendship was good and then i'd think (And when will I meet my end? In a better time you could be my friend) in time soon. the dream soon fade away. i will still be waiting thinking about those days. rehashing the past, and all the good that was in our way. this song doesn't have an ending, like it's more drifting towards to a continuation that in time will soon happen. because we don't know where we go? so those the song. and for those who could relate to it. it ends with "you're long gone". that's wht we think when it just ended. but we never really know what will happen. Maybe in a better time you could be my friend? my strange old face, referring maybe to the person you once were when you had the friendship, that bond. yah thats all i could think off. haha |

I think it may refer to a sex buddy/friendswithbenefit/open relationship call it what you want, but you get it (I wonder why I'm so caught off guard when we kiss. I'd rather live my life in regret then do this.) being with this person, takes a lot of risk, because they KNOW they are gonna live in regrets whether they end it now or later, because they've started. and the person is probably caught of guard because maybe people and even the person is thinking that they can't do this. but they can't stop either. relationships like these always end with no-conversation and cigarette to release the stress that you put yourself through. and that risk, the sex, or so called love they think it is, is burning just like cigarette they have to take the pain away. and every night, endless night of regrets, they either don't know whether to stay or leave. because they're hoping for so much more. they're hope that they can get on the same chapter and what the same things. so they stay and hold out to this relationship that will never exist and never will happen. it's like when a guy says he doesn't want to be serious. HE REALLY MEANS HE DOESN'T WANT TO BE SERIOUS. but yet the women who is giving in still believe that this will intime soon change by the intimacy they have. and every time have the intimacy, she burns, yet she feels that the other should have a bit of freedom thus (Do what you want, but i'm drinking) (What happened to the love we both knew, we both chased?) Maybe doing the process, maybe the other manipulated them to have their way. To keep them as a side project. But also maybe it was something happier at first. Getting to know a person before anything really happens. And thats the happy part. (Hushed with a finger, don't say you'll never when you might) i think it's secrecy of letting others know of whats going on behind closed doors. because maybe infront of other the person will say no i'd never. hypocrisy. because in reality this person is seeing that particular person when in front of the camera they act like they don't even care this song may or may not have to do with "drugs or me", "over", "23". it all seem to have the same theme like 23 " what are you hoping for". it's a relationship that will never happen, because you keep hoping for the other person to change. for all the women/men, for all the drugs, the drinking, the lies... the person is a drug to them. because they know they will and can't ever let go. thus creating beautiful depressed song like these. the love has become a poison that leads to this self destruction :) |

such a beautiful song. the thought of spending the summer by the beach with someone you love is brought. but in reality, you're not exactly with the person. the person isn't in a relationship with you but during the summer theres romance like as if you were together and when they get back to their life their reality (because the seasons change) maybe one of the person once more. and the other just wanted a summer scandal thus leaving to say (i knew your heart i couldn't win) although the person may enjoy the summer, they don't want to let go and thus creating a summer romance for their heart to remember (And we'd left our love in our summer skin) |

i think they already broke up, yet the after breaking up the whole "breaking up situation" is becoming an issue. the girl must be a hardcore bitch (which i would love to give props to) haha. when a girl can be a total bitch to their ex, the guys wont really react as jerks as much as their ex-girlfriends are reacting and he is more like he knows he is wrong, but somehow he is stating "Although you could have done more ". Yay, it takes two tear things apart, he is trys to make her see that he isn't the only person who wrecked their relationship. something like that. lol but i love this too heheh, very catchy very addictive |

i have always enjoyed this song, this is my favorite single from Keane. I never really actually understood the song, but after i read this it hit me, just something my parents are going through, you know how it seems obvious that being married is not making anything better, being married is what is tearing them apart. but yet, they don't solve it, they live in denial in some cases, when we all know its better that they end their marriage. they will be a lot more happier. instead of just lying to ones self that everything will be better but everyday it gets worser, it almost feels like they are waiting till they die, and thats when they can actually say it's over, because in fact they don't to have to settle that they'd suffer being in this hail storm. Pianist Tim Rice-Oxley gave this meaning in May 16, 2006: “ Nothing in My Way came out of listening to a lot of the poppier end of hiphop on the radio, just kinda driving around and I think particularly the groove of "Lose Yourself" by Eminem got stuck in my head (...) and I guess I liked the idea of trying to do something similar. I guess it was never gonna sound like Eminem, but the groove of it was basically lifted from that, and the song just came from jamming around on a piano. So I guess as a result of all that, I guess it's a much funkier and kinda 'blacker' song than most Keane songs, and that was something that we really wanted to get into the record generally. We were listening to a lot of classic motown as well, much more driving rhythms and you can hear that in a lot of the songs (...) The song's actually written about some people I know who are married, and their marriage was essentially just bringing a lot of misery to both of them, but for some reason they just refused to acknowledge it. I hate the idea of people being so much in denial that they're prepared to almost let their lives fall apart rather than acknowledge what's going on. |
