| The Smashing Pumpkins – A Stitch in Time Lyrics | 15 years ago |

this song is about leaving the rest of the world behind you to focus on the one person you truly care about. it's "a stitch in time"; Billy is saying here that he is completely in the moment with his loved one, without regard to time or obligations. "don't say you want too much; they'll say you've had enough." believe that life can be beautiful, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. the song does take a bit of a detour from this optimistic image: "there's somewhere i've just gotta be." he recognizes that this cannot last forever, because sooner or later the stitch in time will end, and they will have to return to their lives. "you're everywhere at once, and you can't catch me; watch out". Billy is saying that he is a free spirit, and he cannot be contained. basically, it is about a relationship in which they love being together, but still have certain obligations and duties to fulfill elsewhere. cheers to the great Corgan. another gorgeous work of art. |

an amazing song, although that word does not do it justice. this is just my interpretation of it, but anyway you look at it, it never loses its beauty. i see this song as a lament for the pressures life bestows. in the first stanza, the bricks are a metaphor for the things in life we try to create for ourselves. inevitably, everything will come apart. it's a desperate commentary on the things that aren't permanent in life. kevin then goes on to talk about the fact that you can't ever really trust anyone but yourself. "your friends won't wait"; no one is going to be there for you no matter what, so you need to learn to rely solely on yourself. he then finds himself trying to deal with his problems on his own, stoned in a park because it's hard to deal with it all. the girl he sees wearing his shirt & humming his song is interchangeable with any fan of his who is dedicated to his music. he feels like a failure; he can't live up to the expectations his fans & the world have for him. then the song just explodes into a metaphor for the way we waste our lives and take things for granted without ever realizing it. the southern states represent the way we should be living; working hard and valuing everything we are fortunate enough to have. we just waste everything we're given and don't realize the importance of it all. the microphone is yet another metaphor for the complexities of life and how you're forced to face them on your own. people will listen to your troubles to a point, but at the end of the day, they'll just go back to their own lives without truly caring. he then talks about the fact that we should constantly be reevaluating ourselves, because we are continuously in need of change. you should always contemplate what you're doing and how it's affecting your life. and if you don't like the place you're in, "hollow yourself out" and start anew. grow up and take care of your problems instead of trying to rely on others to do it for you. sort out your problems and clear your mind so that you can move on with your life. and God, kevin and jesse's voices mixing together is just flawless. |

| Brand New – Vices Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| i would at least like to think that this song isn't brand new's farewell speech. Obviously their creativity is still alive and well, and it would be such a shame to see them say goodbye so soon. rather, i think this song is about how their lives have changed for the worst in the past ten years. the themes of forest and fire are abound on this album. forest may represent family and the ties that bind a group together, while fire is obviously an allusion to destruction. there is a lot of guilt and angst poured into this song. it's brilliant; brand new hasn't lost it in the slightest. as if any of us really had our doubts. | |
| Brand New – Limousine Lyrics | 16 years ago |

i thought the real meaning behind this song would be posted by now, but so far i haven't seen it yet. so here goes.. this song is about a tragedy that occured on july 4, 2006. a drunk driver named mark heidgen drove his pick up on the wrong side of the road at a speed of 70 mph. he collided with a limousine that was carrying 6 people from a wedding back to their homes. on board was the wedding's flower girl, katie, who was only 7 years old. the collision instantly killed the driver. katie was decapitated by the twisted wreckage. the father was taken into intensive care, and the other passengers were injured. katie's mother woke up a short time after the collision and pulled herself out from underneath the wreckage, only to find the severed head of her daughter on the ground. what a devastating story. the first verse is from katie's mother's perspective; "and i have one more night to be your mother. her singal was interrupted. my baby's frequency was not strong enough; her head in my hands smiling." the second verse is from mark heidgen's point of view, in which he talks about "this guilt that will crush me." i interpret his repeating of the line "i love you so much..." seven times to represent either the seven years of her life, or the seven deadly sins. once you really understand this song, you see how beautifully tragic and devastating it is. it gives me chills every time i listen to it. |

the song is a metaphor for love. the way jesse made it into this epic story is just breathtaking. the way i see it, this is about his first love, and it went horribly wrong. "four months at sea" seems to mean that they had a healthy relationship for four months. suddenly, they were hit by this "wave" of unhappiness, and it ultimately ended their relationship. "the hole in the hull defied the crew's attempt to bail us out" could mean that people around them were trying to help them salvage their relationship, but it was already too damaged. the "crew" he refers to could also be a metaphor for their attempts to make things right again. just a beautiful song, regardless of how you interpret it. |

| The Cranberries – Ode To My Family Lyrics | 16 years ago |

first of all, i absolutley love the cranberries. they are definitely masters of their craft. it seems as if every one of their songs has the perfect melody and lyrics. this song is no exception; one of my favorites. it's about dolores' childhood in ireland. i think it expresses her longing for the simplicity of that life, and the warmth of her family. the industry she's found herself in doesn't care about her old life or her family's love for her. no one wants to hear a song about a "normal", happy family. |
