Gary Jules – Mad World (Tears for Fears cover) Lyrics 16 years ago
I've heard this song before, but never really whent all that indepth in trying to under stand it other than remebering the lyrics as I would sing along to it in the car... But now that I've seen the movie it was written for (thats what I've heard anyway) I have compleatly come around to it!

You HAVE to have seen the movie to truly understand this song. If you havent seen Donnie Darko yet, SEE IT WHEN YOU GET THE CHANCE! It is a awsom film and it will freak you out, and make you think.

But on to the interperitation
[ps: slight movie spoiler... but its a hard movie to understand so you might as well read this anyways]

Donnie Darko is a movie where the main charactor (called donnie darko) is considered scitsophrentic (sp?) and discoveres within his delutions that he is in a Tangent Univers that will be destroied if he does not put cirtain events into place where he meets the death he avoided at the begining of the film.

The line "And I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad, that the dreams in which I'm dieing are the best I've ever had" Relates to the fact that the whole Tangent Univers could be considered a dream, in which he is rushing to his end in a world that technicaly does not exist. The people around him cant understand, and he cant tell them, and he has a hard time dealing with the lies that abound around him. But still in this false world, he actually lives and learns and it is all better than the world he had excaped.

I'd write more, but its really late and I should have been asleep hours ago. Just go what the movie...
It's worth watching.

Forgive me. I hit the wrong, button... three times. ^^; It was accidentaly, and whoever has the controle over this thing, is free to deleat the extra repeats. I appologes for the rudeness.

Anyways, as I was saying:

2) "Pale yellow, wanting something clear, Pale yellow, daunting task cannot be that near
Forever leering, forever dashing, Forever looking to peers,
Forever hollow, that's worse than yellow, This is the color of tears,
This is the color of tears...Running scared, Running scared"

In this part, the singer describes her confusion with her situation, and also her denial that somthing needs to be done about it. We all have felt this way at some point, had a desire for clarity and simplisity in a situation that requires a difficult action. This is empisized when the song goes on, now nolonger describing the singer but someone else, the boyfriend intrest maybe? I assume so.
In it, he is described as a shallow man, always looking to his friends and rude, although still considered dashing, possibly why she denies denies the need for change so much, athough she does consider him to be worst than a coward, than yellow. And she cries about it as she flees from the issue, as we all do in a distressing situation.

3) "Pale yellow holding on, Brace myself to stand,
Tell myself it is okay, Taking my own hand"

In this small stanza, a big thing is taking place. Pale yellow, or how the girl is refering to herself, has found the steanth to act, bracing herself, and holding on, having finally found reasureance and courage in herself. Finally able to be on her own.

4) "Forever peering into the water, Returning back to the sea,
Under the sea foam, Where I have come from,
Breathing freely"

In this part, the girl is returning back to 'single life' or the sea as it is oftain discribed considering the phrase, "there are plenty fish in the sea." The second line remarks that the girl feals relief after an oppressive relationship, able to 'breath freely'.

5) "Forever yellow, forever yellow..."

This last line comments that the girl recognises that she is still afraid of commitment to a relationship, and believe that she will always be just like her hair is.

There you go, that is my best interperitation of the song. I love this song, it has such a lovely little melody and harmony that i cannot help but sing along. Its simple, but powerfull at the same time.

I hope that answeres any questions... sorry about the mess with the multi-posting, my hand slipped. ^.^;
If you have anyquestions about my interperitation, go ahead and ream me. I am not perfect, and probably deserve it. Ha ha, anyways. yeah, there ya go.

I understand your confusion, lol my thoughts are that the people who wrote down the lerics are confused.
I beleive that the line that says: "Piss is the colore of tears", is in actuality a repeat of the last line after it. Instead its an emphisis: "This is the color of tears, This is the color of tears."

But on the other hand, I do beleive that you've grasped the essance of the song. It is a song about relationships, but I think we can pull more out of it":

1) "Pale yellow scratching at my ear, Pale yellow touching to my rear
Forever tangled, forever mustard, Forever my first worst fear,
Forever yellow, wonder if I'll muster Anything other than fear"

This stanza describes how the person identifies themself with their hair. It is described as long, and musterd yellow, and a constant worry and care for them. Notice, i did alter the one of the lines to fit how i beleive the song is sung. I may be wrong, but this is where i stand. Take it as you will.
The singer goes on to say that they consider themself a coward, using a diffrent variation on the word 'yellow', and worries that they will always be afraid.

2) "Pale yellow, wanting something clear, Pale yellow, daunting task cannot be that near
Forever leering, forever dashing,
Forever looking to peers,
Forever hollow, that's worse than yellow,
Piss is the color of tears,
This is the color of tears

KT Tunstall – Suddenly I See Lyrics 16 years ago
O.O... The artist of this song is a girl??

Oh, well, there goes my theory. lol
I had thought it was a song about a guy seeing a girl that inspired him to be strong...
It was a pritty good idea in my mind... so much for that. ^^;
