I heard Gary Rossington say in an interview once that they wrote the song as more or less a joke and that they didn't even really like Alabama. He said whenever they toured they hated driving through Alabama because there was nothing to see for miles. Great song regardless of whether it was intended as a tribute or just a lighthearted jab at Neil Young. |
