| Is it "falling" or "fallen"? I thought it was fallen, but I kind of like falling better... | |

Well this isn't right. God bless the man who stumbles God bless the man who falls God bless the man who yields to temptation God bless the woman who suffers God bless the woman who weeps God bless the children trying her patience Trouble getting over it is what you're in for so pour yourself another 'cause it'll take a steady pair of hands Holy or unholy ghost Well why I can't tell but either way you cut it You should get some distance if you plan to take a stand God bless the house divided God bless the weeds in the wheat God bless the lamp lit under a bushel I discovered Hell to be the poison in the well so I tried to warn the others of the curse but then my body turned on me I dreamt that for eternity my family would burn. Then I awoke with a wicked thirst. by my baby's yellow bed I kissed her forehead and rubbed her little tummy wondering if she'd soon despise the smell of the booze on my breath like her mom through a darkened mirror I have seen my own reflection and it makes me want to be a better man after another drink. God bless the man at the crossroads God bless the woman who still can't sleep God bless the history that doesn't repeat. |

| Anathallo – The River Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I know that the band posted the actual meaning of the song on their blog, but I thought I'd mention anyway that this song reminds me of Ophelia in Hamlet. The idea of floating down a river... "the tongues of the animals," kind of like Ophelia being crazy before she drowned, speaking gibberish... "It took a father" could mean Polonius, who died earlier in the play and whose death is what caused Ophelia to go crazy. If the river is death (or the natural course of life, which flows toward death), then it makes sense that it took her father, and then took her. I dunno, just an interesting little resonance that I found personally. |

The other important part of their blog post is that they include this quote: "Be open to the real forces that are around, instead of the images and the hype. It's such a lessening of the human being to go through winter hating winter and to go through summer hating summer." - Ken Dunn, Hyde Park Resident. The post talks about the idea of just going with the flow of life and appreciating its beauty, no matter what. |

| Anathallo – John J. Audubon Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Great song. Not sure if it's based on a specific story about John J. Audubon saving the life of a bird or something, but it seems to me like it's comparing humanity to a wounded bird. We receive healing (from God?), but we don't really understand it, or we minimize it, push it away. *Shrugs* | |
| Anathallo – Hoodwink Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| One of my favorite Anathallo songs, for sure. It's almost like a thesis statement on life itself. "All things are so bright and spiritual"--speaks for itself. I get some vibes about death from it as well--"Don't you worry about me, I'm gone." But most poignant for me is the ending... seems like it's about, simply, trying to lead a good life, trying to get back to some kind of innocence or goodness that we might have lost. Beautiful, beautiful song. | |
