Hi, I really like this song too but I'm a little mixed up by the meaning. The first part is a scene from Romeo and Juliet. "I'm standing there On a balcony in summer air See the lights, see the party, the ballgowns See you make your way through the crowd" And so it seems like the song is about forbidden love. But the part where she sings- "'Cause you were Romeo I was a scarlet letter" -confuses me because I though she was on like 18. And by scarlet letter one cannot help but think of the scarlet letter, a tale of adultery. So is she saying that she is an adulterous? Because I highly doubt it, especially because she is sooo young. So that makes me wonder why in the world she put in that line. And then ofcourse in the end he asks her to marry her. So is this just like what she wishes will happen? Her fairytale? Like Romeo and Juliet but without dying? But even if that is the meaning of the song I'm sure she doesn't want to be an adulterous somewhere in there. Does anyone know the true meaning of this song? |

I agree with you stacibug. I watched their music video and there was really no girl in it. There was for like a second. But it kept showing him; and at one point it showed him actually split into two people. So when I watched it I came up with the same meaning as u. Although before watching the music video I thought it was about a girl whom he loved and that he was perfect for but she didn't notice or care. So I guess the only way to know would be to ask the band! :) |
