The way I take this song, is that he is being punished for stealing, or something a long those lines. In the first line he says, "Blame it on the red hand's weight". He is making an excuse on why it isn't his fault, like most people to do. Once he is in the jail scenario(sent you a note from my cage), he is saying if they want him to shut up, he is going to need the cigarettes. After he realizes that it was his fault, and it was his fate to be in the cage, he feels pretty embaressed(I wish that I'd of stayed shut up...) |

I take this song as he tried to accomplish something. After heading towards his goal, he realizes that he is going to have to put in some real work for this. He gives up on the goal, and returns to his previous state. He does not understand why though.
By the way, this song is an amazing one, I am surprised it hasn't had a response for over 2 years. |
