M. Ward – I'm Listening (Child's Theme) Lyrics 5 years ago
I love pretty much all of M. Wards songs. He is quiet in interviews but he seems to be a spiritual person. This song is written so beautifully and simply to me and reflects the listening of God to us, from a lover to their beloved, from a parent to their child, and reflects as well the lifelong journey of all of us to be good listeners; to ourselves, and to others.

David Bazan – Don't Change Lyrics 12 years ago
David Bazan has a way to cut you , - the way laziness cuts him like fun cutlery. Not intentionally- it is more an invitation into how he sees the world. He holds himself to high standards, fails, promises, beats himself up etc. Just like you!

Anyways this song is phenomenal and contains both a desire to grow and improve and also an acceptance and resignation to our limitations. Will and Grace. Life.

Dr. Dog – Shame, Shame Lyrics 12 years ago
Fairly straightforward meaning it seems, the shame of being overly self-obsessed, of living inside of one's mind and viewing oneself as the main character in the story of life, not open to others, to new opportunities, to love. He learns to love and let go through a relationship with someone else.
" i used to act like I was ina movie, so mysterious and misunderstood".
It feels special to live in this place of ambiguity, and mystery, and special-ness, but it is isolating, lonely, and not giving.

Really of course I relate with this song and it speaks to me, very beautifully written,

all the comments on youtube- everyone really ID's with this song. Perhaps the answer is to open yrself up to others, a cause, a hobby, get over yourself a bit and give. It'll be different for everyone, but in the meantime, we can slowly bob to the grooves of Dr. Dog and reflect on this beautiful life.

The Innocence Mission – My Waltzing Days Are Over/Minta's Waltz Lyrics 13 years ago
God this song is so beautiful, captures being trapped in fear, and then being nostalgic about it. She is afraid to dream again, but knows it is attainable. ugh.

Damien Jurado – Johnny Go Riding Lyrics 14 years ago
I can't believe no one has commented on this song, it means so much to me and pretty much defines me. Perfectly captures a state of indecision, someone who is so enamored with their own world and safety they are afraid to step out into something new and potentially great. Its a reminder that beauty in life is standing there in a party dress, beckoning us to dance with it, so go for it.

Damien Jurado – Museum of Flight Lyrics 14 years ago
this song is so beautiful it makes me want to fall in love and be OK with it. The meaning seems fairly straightforward, Falling in love, or into light is a big risk with great reward, and one can get burned.

This song to me, is Damien at his most pop friendly, the song sounds so classic and hooky its great.

Aaahhh.

Damien Jurado – Mountains Still Asleep Lyrics 14 years ago
That has to be David Bazan on harmonies for the "we are all mountains still asleep", anyone?

Gorgeous song as usual, I'm loving this album, Maraqopa.

I honestly don't know what these might mean, but I'm hearing themes of our potential if we learn to let go (we are songs to be song/....joy is letting go) as well that we'll never truly understand ourselves until we have some different perspective (above the cloud/...an echo/...cross the line/...sound feeding back).

Dolorean – How is it? Lyrics 14 years ago
such a dolorean description of being in love, practical - including bullshit, bank accounts, and i think its not 'plenty trips', its 'canoe trips' in the last stanza.
soooo good though.

The Weakerthans – This Is A Fire Door Never Leave Open Lyrics 17 years ago
here is my crack at it:

when i hear that line regarding the title, "this is a fire door, never leave open," i think of the actual fire doors which in many places are actually not to be left open. I almost connect it to maybe him and a significant other sneaking into or out of a building, maybe a work building or something out the back door which should never be left open, but they did anyway so they could meet up and hang out or whatever.

maybe he would prop it open so she could come in. i don't know, my take on that part.
