| Well put simply, I think this song is just about unforeseen consequences, in a love relationship the singer, thought would be for life but ended up being for not, after so many years passed, as well as the claustrophobic imprisoning feeling a lot people can get when settling down with someone and having to devote themselves to only that one person and family they had with that person. The second verse kinda says it all. The singer sounds like he feels maybe he rushed things too much with this women, and didn't really realize it until after many years passed. Its kinda funny how I can relate to this song a bit. Now that I'm almost 24, I always see the people I grew up with, all getting married, having kids, buying a house, settling down. The funny thing is a lot of the people I still talk to, really seem unsatisfied with that kinda life. They were all in such a rush to get married and have kids, and then all of a sudden they start to think "what now?" "sit here as me and my wife get older and less attractive looking?" over time that really can ware a person down, and in this case, the singer ended up divorced because of it, and now he's trying to repress his guilt and regret for all of it by "passing the time with his pride". The whole "how do you tell the dancer from the dance" is another thing that's actually a very simple meaning. Hes simply asking "how could he have seen any of this coming?" "how do you know when you first meet a man or women you really really like, that you're gonna feel that way a couple years from now or more?" There are a great many dancers in the world, all with different dances, some more spectacular than others. How do you know you're going to like a certain dance after seeing in 1000 times? Its something you really must look at choose very carefully when you do, as is love. If you try and rush love this song will more than likely be your fate. | |
| Nazareth – Love Hurts Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| You make me sick. If I didnt know better I'd say you were telling everyone here how do feel. Love is a powerful force. Love can hurt. If you love someone, it means you want to spend your live with them, be together forever, you wanna care for them, be the one that always makes them happy ext. but sometimes it doesnt work that way. Sometimes we love a person, think about them every waking moment, go out of our way to try and please them but get nothing back, and it hurts, because the feelings are still there, but nothing changes. Sometimes relationships end in a one sided breakup, and all the victim has is memories. The other person just moves on not caring about what they did or what they're doing not to the victim, while the victim still has feelings for that person. You feel sad because you love them "thinking of them if they loved you makes you happy" but they dont love you back. That's why love CAN hurt. When you're sad it can distort and warp your thinking, and make you into a bitter person. Some people can handld it and just be friends after being dumped, other's not so much. Everyones different princeofcharon. Anyone who tells someone how to think and feel deserves to get punched in the face. DUMBASS!!! | |
| R.E.M. – Losing My Religion Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This song almost sounds to me like an experience I had with a girl not too long ago. It almost sounds like he's singing about a girl he loved very obsessively, and just couldn't stand the fact of her with another guy when he says "Trying to keep an eye on you Like a hurt, lost and blinded fool". But he can't have her. Perhaps because she's out of his league, and he just can't contend with what she wants in a man when he says "Trying to keep up with you And I don't know if I can do it". He's always thinking about her, always fantasizing and running scenarios about him and her over and over in his mind. He tries really really hard to please her by trying to be more like the kind of man she desires, but it's not enough. He tries to confess to her how much he cares about her, goes a little overboard, and the reaction he gets confuses him. Perhaps she likes him, but not in that way, and for maybe a short time believes she really likes him back, but he finds out the truth it hurts him, and that he only has himself to blame when he says "I set it up". If you haven't been in many relationships it can be easy to confuse a desire for friendship rather than a relationship, and it kinda sounds like he wanted to believe she felt that way about him back, to a point where he did believe it, when in truth she only likes him as a friend and nothing more. He feels like maybe she doesn't completely understand the way he feels, and maybe he can still make her feel that way about him when he says "I haven't said enough" The long term effects of a one sided love can be emotionally crippling, and it turns you into a different person. A depressed and bitter person who loses sight of things in real life that are important to your vitality "job, family, friends, ext" because all you can think about is the person you want to be with but can't, and when you're obsessed in love it's even harder to get over the person and move on. Almost seems that's what he's singing about when he says "that's me in the corner, that's me in the spotlight losing my religion". Put simply he's in love with a girl, whose a completely different person than he is and because of that she doesn't feel the same way for him and it's hurting him. That's just my opinion though. | |

I think Shinobi had it right on pretty good, but I think saying he doesn't care is a bit of an overstatment. Perhaps that what he's trying to show on the outside, when really on the inside, he really has a hard time understanding why she's losing interest in him and cheating, and why she couldn't have just said she wanted to see other pelple in the first place. It seems to me he wants to show on the outside he doesnt mind, becuase he doesnt want to sound upset with her, and intern make matters worse between them just like shinobi said. The chorus could mean a lot of things. I think it's his way of confronting her and saying, why are you being dishonest "runaround"? Are you looking for an easy answer/solution that will solve solve all of this without any hurt feelings, and keep yourself out of hot water "speed things up"? You're only confusing me, and hurting my feelings "slows me down". When the love in a relationship runs dry on one side, there's never an easy answer. Hurt feelings are a givin, and the best think you can do is minimise them by being honest. Being dishonest only will hurt a person more. second verse he's kinda saying "these things happen" "I've seen it before" along with all that generel public and their relationship being like movie and all. Then he want's to have a heart to heart talk with her, and wants her to kinda tell him where he went wrong. "I want more than a touch I want you to reach me, and show me all the things no one else can see" Basicly saying "It's truth time". He also says no one is perfect "Doesn't have to rhyme so dont you feed you a line". There a simple phrase for that whole ship still stands line. It's goes "my heart is cracked but not broken". No matter what happens to him in all of this, he will pick up the pieces and move on, though it may have changed his outlook on his life a bit. That whole fate being like a waitress is a pretty good explanation. Finally he pleas with her to reconsider what shes doing. When she blows him off for the final time he says "thats fine, if that's how she feel's then he will respect her feelings" but he still wonders why she won't respect his feelings in the same way. There are a lot of situations this song can relate to, because everyone will lie about somthing in their life to attempt to spare someones feelings, and not get themselves in hot water. I've had many experiences that relate to this song, I have one right now that fits this song almost perfectly. |
