I disagree with most of the comments on this song being about the failings of the Bush administration. In fact I believe Stipe and his merry band of troubadours are warning us of the impending disaster on the horizon with the Obama gang. The key is in the following lyrics- "The teleprompt flutters, the power surge brings An easy speed message falls into routine..." Everyone knows that Obama does not speak unless he is aided by his trusty teleprompter. And..,"easy speed message"? Hope, change, Hope, change, Hope, change... Need I say more? So, Hah! to you whiny liberals! REM is backing the GOP now! Yeaaaaahh, Boooooyyy!! Your hold over Hollywood and the music industry seems to be crumbling. |
