@[Alfred:36731] E That is a load of crap. Clapton was too smart to get caught up in her web of using people and got out quick. She has a long history of flitting from flower to flower....using and then discarding.

@[VegasJames:36730] She won't talk about the first album much these days and says it is a source of depression to her....as well it should be.Bottrell is probably the only person who will defend her on that front because he was the only one she retained on the second album. She took credit for the work of everyone else on Letterman and said the songs were written from personal experience when in fact they were written by a collective. She left her boyfriend of several years Kevin Gilbert who had been asked by MCA to come in and rescued the disastrous album done by Hugh Padgham and he could not do it after several tries so he took her to the collective he had been hanging with..Bottrell, David and David and a couple of others. Even David Anderle said she took credit for all of it. She has had a reputation for using people to further her career, stealing riffs and ideas from other musicians and firing them.Her ambition knew no boundaries and she didn't care who she stepped on.Even at both Cash funerals,which I am convinced she attended to be SEEN, because she didn't know them that well, there was whispering about Gilbert's death and how she had said he was an asshole in the press. That was a shame because that wunderkind was largely responsible for her being where she was. When they taped the tribute to Cash at the Ryman, they could not keep her off the stage....she and that damned according invaded everyone else's space with no respect for fellow artists. The woman is a serious piece of work. I was there witnessing these things and thinking about the wasted genius of Kevin Gilbert having just heard The Shaming of the True (his brilliant rock opera which has been lost in time) while she and her I don't care who I step on ways catapulted her to the top. She says she rejected the album and not MCA. She always revises the story. She still contends that she wrote the songs...then why are there five and six names on the songs and the rest of her work seems contrived with little or no edge...except this angry song where she defends herself? My old friend and mentor the late Fred Carter Jr said something that applies to many people whose extreme egos and abilities to not see their own tendencies toward being sociopaths in the music business.......THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN ARTIST AND AN ACT! So here I am almost 19 years past your post saying.....trash talking....Hell yeah! There was and still is a lot of it. She is the classic All About Eve syndrome. You don't blame a black widow or a cobra for being what they are.....you just learn over time to have the good sense to stay the hell away from them. Let them stew in their own poison. People like that rarely grow. The last interview I saw she was still refusing to talk about those days as if she were innocent. See if you can find a clip of Kevin Gilbert doing a song called Miss Broadway. He rains on her charade. |

James Hilton said, "There are moments in each man's life when he glimpses the eternal." Whether he sees God in another human being, or in nature, or in daily life, I believe that this song is about that realization which in reality can be a huge thing if realized properly and put into proper perspective. It is a pleasant idea to think of something larger than our own egos (although I am certain those who are followers of the existential self-absorbed way of life would most certainly refute me). No I am not talking about organized religion...just the idea that something is bigger than ourselves. You can take it from there into whatever you wish. |

I think this is a defensive reaction to the truth. She used a bunch of people including Kevin Gilbert to get where she got and then dissed them and took all the credit. When they took exception to being used she was saying....get over it...it happens in show biz all the time. She has continued with this shallow behavior behing the scenes...ask anyone in her bands...or in Tennessee or from the Johnny Cash tribute show. |
