Last night I dreamt I held you with me Close enough to feel you breathe When I awoke I lay here empty Caught between the want and need Now in the darkness I am only Thoughtful hopes and pieces mind These dreams are all I've ever wanted Found behind the closing eyes - Pretty much just what it says. He's dreaming she's there with him, but he wakes and she isn't. He describes how all he's ever wanted was for her to be there with him. Close enough to feeling someone breathe is a very intimate thing, he wants her to be close to him in the emotional sense as well as the physical, (i am assuming). How long we've been trying to reach you We all fall down like this sometimes Trying to reach you I'm trying -Saying that other people as well as him have been trying to connect back with the girl, and that a lot of people have times where they aren't ok. He's trying to reach her to help. Last night I dreamt I held you with me Closer still to see you leave When I awoke the fear of lonely Gripped my heart in concious sleep Now in the darkness I lay empty Hollow beaten like a drum Still water cages I am hoping In these dreams to me you'll come - He's dreaming that he's losing her (subconscious saying its a fear of his) -its kind of like he knows no matter how close he holds her, she's going to leave. It's like he can't keep her there with him no matter what he does- and that he hopes she'll come back to him of her own accord. These fields alive with fire and ashes Inside these fields we'll find oceans of ashes When all your dreams have died I don't want to die - I see the fields as her life and how its been destroyed/how she views it. The dreams are the things she wants, and he doesn't want her to stop wanting him. Just keep holding my hand because I'm trying to reach you I'm never letting you go Because I'm dying to keep you I'm trying - He's basically saying, just don't let go, he's trying so hard, he refuses to let go, to give up and let her leave. I'm walking through your fields Of broken flowers They fall upon my face Like tears for hours If all we are we are If all we are we are To wake and call your name in the tiny hours We all fall down - He's looking at her life through her eyes, imagining what it's like. OR: he's experiencing pain and describing it similar to how he describes her own pain. - The second last line, to me, is him admitting to his vulnerability, because 'in the tiny hours' is like, the time when you're most desperately honest and vulnerable.... I can't explain it properly.... it's when you feel most alone.. and you admit to yourself what it is you want/need the most. - The last line reinforces that fact that everyone has a time/s where they lose all hope and suffer some sort of loss/pain. The general meaning that comes to my mind when I try to picture this song is that a girl has depression/suffers a great loss and can't deal with it, retreating into herself, and he's trying to keep her with him, trying not to let her slip away any more than she's already done. He's trying to help her come back to who she was, saying that alot of other people fall down too... He doesn't want her to leave him/fall out of love with him. There's the underlying point that he can't live without her/her loving him. |

I think this song is indeed about God. Angel of mercy How did you find me? Where did you read my story? Pulled from the papers Desperate and hardened seeking a momentary fix - asking how God noticed that he needed help. It seems to me he was trying to feel whole. But what he was doing wasn't working. And* I wanted to say All I wanted to do Is fall apart now All I wanted to feel I wanted to love Its all my fault now A Tradegy I fear - he was in a dilema (personal) and just wanted to give up and fall apart. He tried to feel something and he wanted to love so badly, but it didn't turn out right. He may have gone down the wrong path and lost his way to what he was trying to reach. Angel of mercy How did you find me? How did you pick me up again? Angel of mercy How did you move me? Why am I on my feet again? And I see you - asking God how he managed to pick him up and give him the right kind of guidance. he knows his path now. Whoa Whoa Whoa I feel you Whoa Whoa Whoa - He can feel God there with him. (A friend told me once that he opened his heart up and spoke to God and said that he wanted him in his life, and the most unusual feeling took over him. He felt like God was there and he listened.) Fortress of daylight Caught me on stand-by Waiting to catch the quickest plane Flying to nowhere Is better than somewhere That's where i've been and nothing's changed - Saying how he just wanted to get away from where he was, both physically and emotionally. Saying how he tried going somewhere but it didn't work, so now he just wants to be nowhere. I'm so lost in you A tragedy seemed to be over now A tradegy it seemed to be over now - He is now consumed by God, and the tragedy of him losing his way and giving up is over, but it only seemed a tragedy, because in the end God came and helped him. (A tragedy means there is no good from the events that unfold, but now that God's there, it only seems like it was a tragedy as he looks back on it in retrospect.) So basically this song is about him losing his way, he had good intentions, he wanted to feel and love, but he couldn't get there. He gave up and it was then that God stepped in and showed him the way/gave him faith to get there. |

First off, I think its about one night stands/casual sex. But my interpretation differs from there to the comments I've read. 1: I love the girls who hate to love because they're just like me. A Certain girl she took my hand and ran it up her thigh. -He loves girls who like casual sex and don't want to fall in love. This first girl, runs HIS hand up HER thigh, meaning she wants to get her own rocks off, not necessarily his. 2: The frustration it's a regular thing I hate the ones who love to hate because they're just like me. A certain girl she took her hand and put in my lap It's way too full she said once you have me you'll always come back. - He gets frustrated when girls he hooks up with turn out to be just like him. They love to hate, which I take to be they love causing shit and stirring people up. This girl puts HER hand on HIS lap, meaning she's got another agenda, other than having sex. Possibly she wants to make him addicted to her, in effect she wants control over him and with that she would just be a bitch because its what she likes. 3: You know you love all the lies so dont act surprised but I just Love to hate you. I kissed your lips you pulled my hair it was the craziest thing. I Love the girls who love to hate. (Breathing) <--- (fuk, him breathing is so hot! I love it!) But yet, he likes those girls best, because he can enjoy hating them and being an asshole back. For example, denying he slept with them.. This serves to rile the woman up and disrupt her plans. He loves insulting them and telling them to go back to where they belong. [atleast he says it nicer than Hamlet. "Get thee to a nunnery!" (however you spell it).] It sounds like he likes angry hate sex with strangers who like the exact same. |

| Sense Field – Save Yourself Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Turn out the light Just say goodnight to yourself May I remind you When you find you Are all alone, It's when you You've got to be strong That's when they call you, in the night He's got your picture in his mind He's got your number on a paper At his disposal, anytime - basically saying when you're physically alone and you realise that emotionally, you are also, is when you have to be strong to resist the kind of people who try to take advantage of that. (Straight off, when the word disposal comes up, you know that the guy doesn't think of the girl as anything important.) Is it really true? Could you save yourself For someone who Could love you for you - The singer asking can the person really resist the urge, that he'd given into, to try to find that illusion of intimacy. So many times we just give it away To someone who To someone who You met in a bar The back of a car - He's kind of saying that those who 'just give it away' are betraying themselves by doing it so casually. And for a moment, you felt important But not in your heart - The illusion of feeling connected to the other person. It's never heartfelt, you know it's not real. And your heart always knows. Cause my self esteem It's been low Go ahead and count It's been lower than low I know the feeling Of it stealing life out from under me - some people lose their self esteem when they have casual sex, and the singer knows how the action steals a part of your life away from you. 'Cause I wanna learn Could you save yourself For someone who Love you for you - he wants to be able to save himself for someone who loves him. simple enough. So many times We just give it away To someone who Couldn't even remember your name - He kind of saying that most people have sex with other people who don't have very much respect for them, and don't even have the decency to remember their name. Another impersonal thing that lowers a person's self esteem. Could you save yourself For someone who Loves you for you Loves me for me Just give it away To someone who To someone who Would cherish your name - Basically what the whole song is abuot: Only have sex with someone who loves you and who cherishes who you are. Someone who won't forget your name. The singer is the voice of reason, he's trying to tell the audience how his experiences have effected him and how he believes its right to only have sex with people that matter. Don't go chasing after sex if you're lonely and you want to try to delude yourself into thinking someone loves you. Speaking from experience, you really don't feel important in your heart when the person you are having sex with doesn't care about you at all. You just lose your self esteem and I ended up hating myself for a long time because I felt I'd cheapened myself so much. I was going to wait, but then alcohol and a jerk guy decided otherwise. But there is always hope for you to learn from it. The guy wants to learn- he wants to do better than just casual sex. The illusion of intimacy can't compare to the real thing. just remember that. |

| Say Anything – A Walk Through Hell Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
"and if i could swim i'd swim out to you in the ocean swim out to where you were floating in the dark" - Floating in the ocean alone is symbolic of the girl's isolation. Especially in the dark, she is isolated, from others and from seeing who she really is. She's being 'kept in the dark'. "and if i was blessed i'd walk on the water you're breathing to lend you some air for that heaving sunken chest" - The guy wants to walk over the isolation she is in and restore air- reality, new life, purity- into her being. "because they chose you as the model for their empty little dreams with your new head and your legs spread like a filthy magazine" - The girl has been brainwashed into being what other people want her to be. People who don't have the right sort of morals, and who don't care about her as a person at all. "and they hunt you and they gut you and you give in" - This has a lot of relevence to highschool and how bitchy girls are. They gang up on one girl, absolutely tear her to shreds and end up making her believe the things they say about her. "and if i was brave i'd climb up to you on the mountain they led you to drink from their fountain spouting lies" - The mountain signifies how far from herself she is, and the fountain she was led to drink from is the lies of everyone around her. Also, imagining a mountain gives you the impression she's close to the edge and could fall at any moment, a long way down. The higher you climb, the harder you fall. "and i'd slay the horrible beast they commissioned to steer me away from my mission to your eyes" - 'Horrible beast' for me is symbolic of rumours and reputations, which deter people from actually knowing a person's soul. It is said a person's eyes are the gateway to their soul, so in effect, the guy is saying that he will (kill)dismiss the lies told about her and stick to his objective to see who the girl really is by looking at her soul. "and i'd stand there like a soldier with my foot upon his chest with my grin spread and my arms out in my bloodstained sunday's best" - Basically, the guy is saying he'd take pride in triumphing against the lies about her and greet her as he was. He isn't afraid to show her who he is, he doesn't try to be perfect, in his 'bloodstained' sunday's best. "and you'd hold me i'd remind you who you are under their shell" - He knows she would accept him for who he is, and he would make her remember who she was underneath all the constrictions everyone else placed upon her. "i'd walk through hell for you let it burn right through my shoes these soles are useless without you let the torturing ensue my soul is useless without you" - He would walk through so much shit for her, welcoming the worst, because he believes he's not complete without her and that she would be more than worth it all. "and if they sent a whirlwind i'd hug it like a harmless little tree or an earthquake i'd calm it and i'd bring you back to me and i'd hold you in my weak arms like a first born" - This is just saying how he would deal with the dramas thrown his way by everyone else. And amongst all that, he would continue to remind her of who she was. "now i walked through hell for you what's an adventurer to do but rest these feet at home with you" - Now that he's endured all the shit thrown at them, all he wants to do is just be with her. Its where he knows he belongs. This song is almost like a quest. In the end, after coming out victorious against trials, he wins the girl. That's the reason why I think the lyrics have "and if" and "and I'd". Also, 'slay'ing the beast, seems like slaying a drangon to save the damsel etc... the guy is just describing a scenario, which reminds the audience of a tale about a knight doing something noble. It makes it seem more romantic than him saying, "Yeah, ill just ignore what people say about you. I'll tell them to STFU." I have actually cried a couple of times in the past when I listened to this song. He's the only one that sees her clearly and he knows she's worth the work of enduring what other people say about her, and he was willing to save her from it all and make her remember who she really is. |

This song is pretty easy to understand. The guy is in love with the girl and he wants the chance/time to prove to her that he's the one for her. He already knows she is his one true love, and until that time, he's willing for her to treat him however she pleases. He wants her to know that no matter what, he's always going to be there and he'd save her even if it cost him his life. In a way its a kind of selfless love, where her happiness and her needs are above his own, and that's why he's ok with weathering abuse from her. You've got to love someone a lot to commit to that so firmly.. |

| Saosin – You're Not Alone Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Ok, I might not exactly get my thought across properly for this song, but I'll try not to confuse myself or you. "It's just like him To wander off in the evergreen park Slowly searching For any sign of the ones he used to love He says he's got nothing left to live for (He says he's got nothing left) And this time I think you'll know" The guy is searching for the people that meant alot to him in his life, trying to find them again so that he can feel like he has something to live for, that he has substance to his life and being. Also, for some reason, the 'evergreen park' makes me think of memories- is it just me, or do you tend to have a lot of nostalga for certain times in your past, where you thought you knew exactly what you wanted and who you were? So if you put those two observations together, he's looking back in his past to find the meaning he felt his life had that his loved ones had given him... "You're not alone There is more to this I know You can make it out You will live to tell" Basically, there's more to your own life than the meaning that other people give to you. Eventually, you will discover it on your own and you will be able to look back on your life and understand the journey. And just as you are going through this, so are a lot of other people, too.. "She's just like him Spoiled rotten, confused by the lies she's been fed And she's searching for no one (but herself) Her eyes turn to green and she seems to be happy, that she is here And this time I think you'll know" This enforces the first part of the song, how she's been led to depend on other peoples' opinions and to define herself how they define her. When you begin to cast off the importance of what everyone else's opinions of you are, you find out who YOU think you are, and finding yourself does make you happy. The girl is happy that SHE finally knows who she is, after being told all her life who she is by everyone else. So yeah... I dunno... that's just kind of what I gathered from the song. I quite like this song :) |
