| Carolina Liar – Show Me What I'm Looking For Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| this song's about the guy's realization that he's not who he wants to be, due to succumbing to outside forces or his impulses. since the problem is himself (he can't stay in line with his own ideals), he asks god to show him the way. | |
| Splashdown – Dig Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| It's about finding yourself. You're digging into your character only to find that "Truth of Soul" is right--you're bottomless. You're infinite and indefinite and therefore, the world doesn't come as an "easy fit". It's frightening, but you continue to discover yourself as you dig. | |

I think the whole alien abduction business is a giant metaphor for losing love. "It started with a low light Next thing I knew, they ripped me from my bed And then they took my blood type It left a strange impression in my head" He had barely a warning, and then "they", an inhuman force (time, circumstances, the world being a beezy, whatever), ripped him from his "bed", a romantic relationship where he was comfortable in. The next two lines describes how this transition changed him, robbing him of life and giving him a different "strange" perspective. "You know that I was hoping That I could leave this star-crossed world behind But when they cut me open I guess I changed my mind" I had thought this song was just about a tough transition, but the "star-crossed world" seems to point to romantic love, since "star-crossed lovers" is a famous line in Romeo and Juliet and signifies lovers whose relationship is doomed. He had once thought life would be easier without a relationship...but he changes his mind when he discovers the pain of losing the person he loves (due to "they", the forces outside his control). "And you know I might have just flown too far from the floor this time, 'cause they're calling me by my name And they're zipping white light beams Disregarding bombs and satellites" He has "flown too far" from the relationship, thinking it's hard to maintain or something, and now "they're calling [him] by [his] name", meaning is claiming him and keeping him from his love, no matter how hard he tries to keep his relationship through "bombs and satellites". "And that was the turning point That was one lonely night" I'd say a break-up's a turning point. And it's lonely. "The star maker says it ain't so bad The dream maker's gonna make you mad The spaceman says everybody look down it's all in your mind" These guys are different parts of his psyche. Not sure why it's a star-maker... anyways, he's trying to convince himself it doesn't hurt that much. The part of him that dreams will make him mad because he's just failed a dream. The spaceman, the part of him that's isolated from all of his emotions, says the pain's "all in your mind", and is therefore controllable. "But now I'm back at home and I'm looking forward to this life I live You know it's gonna haunt me So hesitation to this life I give" He is over whoever he loved and wants to start over, but he's cautious about loving again. He also warns others of making his same mistake: "You think you might cross over You're caught between the devil and the deep blue sea You better look it over Before you make that leap" "And you know I'm fine But I hear those voices at night sometimes And they justify my claim And the public don't dwell on my transmission 'Cause it wasn't televised" He hears the voices of the star-maker and the spaceman, telling him he's fine, justifying his claim. But he's not, because he's still arguing with himself, knowing he's not fine and trying to convince himself otherwise. The public don't talk about his break-up because he didn't make a whole scandal about it. "My global position systems are vocally addressed They say the Nile used to run from east to west They say the Nile used to run From east to west" Others can only tell how he feels, or pinpoint his position, by what he says, and vice versa. I think that he's been "vocally addressed" by reality and his inner voices to the Nile (denial). I'm not sure about the "east to west". Except maybe east to west is toward the sunset (denying the end of the relationship)? And now it's west to east toward sunrise (denying the start of another one)? Yeah, it's a stretch. Umm I do think the suicide idea is valid as well. Actually, it probably holds more water than my theory. I just don't think it's simply an alien abduction. Sorry :\ |
