What a beautiful song. The way it builds on that insistent, endlessly repetitive series of notes.. matching the tone of the lyrics just perfect. And then the crazed looselipssinkships interludes that perfectly encapsulate the creepy, paranoiac vibe present in this song. Just awesome. Anyway, I think one way of listening to this song is as a sort of reinterpretation of one of our nationals myths: George Washington and the Cherry Tree. This fresh view is that of little George himself. The little dude has destroyed his dad's favorite tree, and now pops is on the warpath to find out who was the culprit. Everything feels like an accusation to George, but he is still trying to play it cool... "Don't look at me I'm only breathing" But it hurts, he can feel the admission to his guilt trying to escape any way it can... "don't look at me I'm indiscreet" looselipssinkships looselipssinkships ... *shivers* this is awesome, and functions as young George's mantra as he tries not to succumb to his conscience. I think this song portrays the an aspect of the feeling of guilt. The guitar as the unconscious droning against the efforts to keep it together, to "have a little discipline" The lashings of the conscience against the will. The desire to just hide from eyes, to just crawl into a hole for a time. As the song continues, the subject starts to lose his ability to keep his shit together, the thoughts split into fragments, the droning builds, and all he can do to avoid admitting to his crime is to endlessly repeat his mantra.. looselipssinkshipslooselipssinkships..... of course, we know how this story ends, don't we? |

You sound like a fun person to be around. Holding a job makes a person trashy? You should go outside and try to meet some people, it might be a good experience for ya. |
