yeah wow there are a lot of screw ups in this song... ANYWAY! This song is obviously (at least my meaning) about not becoming another office desk jockey working away for average pay for an average home living an average life. This song in literally my anthem for 'rebellion'. Because of this song I tried to change things at my school - I was 'removed' from being the president of the school because of it. Still I try to live my life outside the bounderies established by others for me. |

I am a solid RA fan, and I am also huge into politics and war. So as soon as I heard this song that's what I was thinking too, but my curiosity got the best of me and SHABAM! I found out that Tim McIlrath and the rest of the guys wrote this song and took inspiration from a book (or a movie?) about soldiers that came home from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Some soldiers were put in situations where they "pissed in his hands", shot the women ("shells jumped through the smoke"), etc. they did not think joining the Armed Forces would present those types of situations. So really, it is an original song about the struggles some soldiers have to endure - not physically but mentally -when returning home as a "Hero of War". It is a beautiful song comparable to Swing Life Away but mixed with more graphic emotion. I love it. The only two acoustic songs ever on an album by Rise Against are some of the most passionate and wholehearted songs I have ever heard from anyone. Seeing them AGAIN in Minnesota June 26th! Hell yeah! |
