| Dave Matthews Band – Pig Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Every time I hear this song, aside from being my second favorite song, I think of a certain person that does mean a lot to me. Kind of a relationship thing, and this was her favorite song. And now that has come and gone, when I hear this song all I can think of are the lyrics: "Dont beat your head, dry your eyes. let the love in there. there's bad times, but that's okay we'll just look for love in it.... Don't burn the day away." Hits home every time. From the start of boyd's violin, to the chorus. Great song, great meaning, and I guess every tune affects every person in it's own certain, and sometimes unfortunate way. |

| Dave Matthews Band – Lie in Our Graves Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
This song is great, a big energy kick especially when Reynolds goes insane on the guitar fills. -The meaning is one of many. Essentially, it's a build up to a climatic question. Take the risk playing with fire or play safe and possibly fall into regret. All leading up to the point of the aforementioned question it was a happy-go-lucky situation with no worries, and all fun. It was until a point of time occurred that provoked a thought of whether to or not to risk it all to either attain more happiness, or fall completely on your face. Or, on the contrary, play safe and remain silent. This, taking no risk, almost ensures that you'll never be hurt theoretically. However you will never know what could have been, "what might have been", and in the end, you might ask yourself and say, "i can't believe that we would lie in our graves, thinking of things, and what they might have been." |

| Dave Matthews Band – You Might Die Trying Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
This is about the struggles of life, the hardship that ensues, and maybe even the American Dream. As a rough definition, the American Dream is one of success in life financially and wholistically overtime. In a sense, it's your ambition to succeed and personal drive that is put into a question. A question of mental and physical endurance that defines who you are, and if you will succeed. The man/woman who wishes to be a doctor, a lawyer, a teacher, a politician and has the premature notion to make the world a better place, you might die trying getting to where you want but you can do it. "To change the world, starts with one step. However small, first step is hardest of all." -Could be the escape of a negative environment, could be the institution of a program, could just be taking the first class in a pre-medicine regiment, and it could be the first hour of withdrawl from a hard narcotic. "But once you get your gait, you'll be walkin tall." -Once you get past the first trial, and succeed, it's going to get easier as time progresses. Keep you gait, keep walking, you will get to the light, but it wont be easy. "You said you never did." -Claiming denial, failure, and surrender. You're giving in to the fact that maybe you've tried and failed before. "You might die trying." -Get up, try again. If you want it bad enough you will get it, however the trail to destiny is rigid and dangerous. Pack a band-aid, cause you might die trying. |

| Dave Matthews Band – Raven Lyrics | 16 years ago |

There can be two perspectives on this song: One of which, Viceking nailed perfectly. It portrays a father and son having a influential conversation consisting of the father warning his son of his fallacies, and letting him know that you only get one life, and there is no reset button. "You take care of it please, it's the only one you've got." And then, the father continues to say that he has made mistakes, and those of which have either spoiled his or the entire family name, and therefore the son has to reinvent the pedestal that family name once rested upon. The son realizing this burden, angered, understands what has to be done: "It's would take me a lifetime, old man, to undo what you've done." On the contrary, the whole religious aspect is definitely there as well. Between Jesus and God. As aforementioned by others way before me on this, it's basically saying that God has unfinished business and Jesus must take care of it. -I like to think of this song as father-son thing, cause it hits home. And I like this version so much better than the other, especially when they played it at MSG 4/14/09-awesome show. |
