I think this song is about that state a person goes into when they're depressed. When I was in grade eight, my parents got a divorce, and I just felt numb for about six months. I know that diviorce isn't that big a deal, but I was younger then... I remember getting back from school, running up to my room, and just sitting there for hours and hours. The whole song implies ignoring and not being able to move on: "go meander in the cold", " hiding the fact you're dead again", as well as drowning in your own feelings: "at long its crashed its colossal mass has broken up into bits in my moat" My fave part is the bit about the telephone poles :) |

I agree with you on the first part, but the song says "and all I wanna hear is the message beep" and then after a few lines theres a beep and then theres the chorus. It sounds kind of like a ringtone, and doesn't fit the overall mood of the song, making me think that its the last bit of happiness, and the only part of the world that is pure anymore. This song makes me sad. |

I can't believe that nobody is commenting. Sixpene None the Richer is so good! You can't really tell from the lyrics, but if you listen to the song, it's simply about being content with life. |
