Though I have the strength to move a hill I can hardly leave my room So I sit perfectly still And Ill listen for a tune While my mind is on the moon --apdm, i really think you're right about this one. The strength to move a hill refers to a maddening energy burning inside of him from something taring at him, perhaps someone who has left him or died. He lets the energy burn inside of him because he can't bare to go out, he's waiting for some sign (listening for a tune)and thinking about something higher up (the moon=potential girl). |

also pertaining to abortion- I slept all day awoke with distaste and I railed, and I raved and also the lyric about sleeping as if dead early signs of pregnancy are fatigue and waking up with morning sickness whether with or without vomitting. sleeping all day could also be a result of depression from being torn with decisions. makes sense. |

-the difference between the sprout (a child) and the bean (an unborn fetus) is the golden ring (marriage). Very clearly a song about abortion. The counsilor and the king have important roles in this song because they've held interesting roles in society dealing with the opinion of unmarried sex. A long, long time ago sex was only allowed under consent of the king; a counsilor represents an advisor that might get in your head about the difference between right and wrong (for example;keeping the baby and potentially being looked down upon verses having practiced safe sex). it applies to the young and unmarried to terrifying accidents i've been listening to it all week. |

i'm also connecting "go off to sleep in the sunshine" with the gorillas "aint happy im feeling bad i got sunshine in a bag" (i know, not a good song, but im assuming sunshine in a bag is drugs, cocaine, whatever). if he is addicted to drugs then that is what he is commited to and also why he would disappoint the girl who is trying to help him. ok im done responding to this i proomise! |

| Elliott Smith – Twilight (Somebody's Baby) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| the day time is bright and then it fades to darkness when the sun goes down-twilight it the time of day right before the end of light. its referring to a relationship that is depressing because its ending-"go off to sleep in the sunshine, I don't want to see the day when its dying." as much as he'd like to escape with this other girl, whose "candle burns bright" and makes the day seem a little better, he'd rather shut his eyes and pretend the relationship is ok. he wont risk things with this friend that is a girl because he already devotes himself miserably to his baby. looks like he has a bad take on how relationships/love goes-he says "and if i went with you i'd disappoint you too" as if he believes its his fault he cannot find himself in love. | |
| Maria Mena – Nevermind Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |

she realizes that the guy she's with is playing games and might never get serious; sort of a one-sided relationship. she wants to talk to him about it but you know, like he'd even care. she says "never mind me i'll just cast shadows on your wall" because she knows her emotions have little effect on him and she might as well keep it quiet because she'll desperately do anything for him. basically he's heartless and makes her feel small because he's using her "just tell me how you want me and i'll be naked stumbling just to get a reaction, any signs of love."-she has this thought process that maybe, if she keeps doing for him what he wants and if she loves him right, that somedays he'll love her back. never mind me.-you'll never take this relationship seriously i'll let myself out -can't take feeling small any moreee. |

is anyone going to talk about these lyrics mean? i'll give it a shot but my explanations pretty weak. fall down the stairs, it's been a long time since i got my hands on your teenage poems it's the only poison that i like. and throwing rocks at broken windows picking locks with footprints from the snow falling is an expression used when you start to love someone. but instead of it being a good feeling it only hurt him. throwing rocks at broken windows-you can't break what's already broken. (his heart). picking locks with footprints from the snow-footprints in the snow are impressions that melt when the sun comes out, they don't last. maybe he's trying to get to her and he feels like he never will because it always changes. another way to look at it is that he went to her house and found footprints in the snow, as if someone had just been there. and shes locked him out and hes trying to get in while yelling at her for the things shes done. this theory makes more sense with the phrase "look what you've done you've punched a hole in the sun" she leaves him for someone new. punched a hole in the sun refers to the darkness a person feels in depression. |

welp, this pretty much covers it. he's in a bad relationship, his friend helps him through it because they're in a similar relationship and they start to have feelings for each other. but he knows in the end he won't be able to escape his lover because he's unsuccessful in leaving her love. it's like they're planning on running away with each other and he already knows he can't follow through even though this girl is everything he ever wanted. And if I went with you I'd disappoint you too Well, I'm already somebody's baby also he wonders if it's a rebound and if this new girl won't regret moving on with him if they ever decided to take this crazy irrational step. I'm nice to you I could make it through That you're already somebody's baby I could make you smile If you stayed a while But how long will you stay with me, baby? |

| Joanna Newsom – Only Skin Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| joanna refers to a bird that flies into a "picture window," a fake glass wall we see the world through. they watch the birds struggle as it sufficates and dies and she contributes a prayer that it will be redeemed in an after life with a better view. i believe the bird she talks about is a metaphor for herself, she flew into something she could see through (a false relationship-hence "the love you lent me-" lent is significant to not giving something away for keeps.) and knew was fake and when it hit her it figuritivly killed her. or she wants to protect its body because she knows what its like to sufficate. theres so much to this song but i thought id mention the bird aspect and see if anyone was sharing this thought. | |
| CocoRosie – Werewolf Lyrics | 16 years ago |

its about the bad relationships she has with men in general. As a girl she learned that her father was an evil man (with a "disease"-schitzophrenia), hence the reference to a werewolf which is a mythical creature that comes alive by the moon and will hurt even the ones he loves. she becomes a stronger person by becoming skeptical about men, where the chorus says she tries to turn over a new leaf and learn to love. she loses her virginity to him, (what she had kept sacred). he breaks her heart, emotionally abuses her. its like when youre fresh out of a relationship that you didnt want to end in such a way and you feel a terrible wave of helpless solitude. you see that person everywhere. see their name everyhere. and a man helps her and she feels like he looks just like her father and her ex-lover because she feels like all men are the same. Another Western vampire different time same place theres alot i dont understand though. What about the part with the crystal ships dripping with ice and whatnot? anyonee? |

i love this song but i also hate it for being the most truthful discription on this fucking planet. And I wish to feel smaller under your sheets. I wish for the whole truth every time you speak. And I'm thinkin' about how you care half as much for me As I watch you arrive, smoke cigarettes, sleep. -i wish for the whole truth every time you speak i translate this to mean hes simply good at twisting words to his advantage, using "bed talk," if you will. as in he says what goes through his head at the time in which he believes will enable him to get what he wants. "i like you so much, you look so pretty, yadda yadda" basically in the entire song he's pretending to care but she can feel him shoving her aside and it's killing her. and just a side note-i'm picturing her watching him smoke cigarettes when he comes which is a slight give away that the relationship is filled with empty spaces-smoking is an oral fixation that decreases anxiety and gives you a momentary head high, obv, but smoking is a good sign of liking independence. of course he's probably just a chain smoker, i imagine cigarette smoke adds to the mood of the song of being alone somewhere. |

this should be the theme song that goes off every time i leave my "boyfriends" apartment. its sad that there's so many other people who feel this way... I relate it to "Just like honey" by Jesus and the Mary chain. many people have different takes on the meaning behind this song but i still think it's about sex. "i'll be your plastic toy....walking back to you is the hardest thing that i can do, that i can do for you." -in both cases they do what the person they love wants and it gives them hell. yet they go back/stay. why do we do it? the more we feel emotionally unwanted the more we ache to feel wanted. it's science. |

The deceptive beauty in the song is really what intrigues me. It's not about something beautiful at all, really, it's about a terrible relationship that is making this guy miserable. sex is the metaphor he's using through the metaphor of honey because he's convincing himself that it's better than it is, both the oral sex and the relationship. He eats up her scum (eating out), something that obviously isn't a tasty treat but he will do for her because it makes her happy. Because she is happy and he isn't he finds it hard to come back to her after because the act of making love was all in her favor and he has been her "plastic toy" and she will want more.-"walking back to you is the hardest thing that i can do that i can do for you." just like honey- the honey from her beehive represents the taste of her insides which he is convincing himself tastes like honey. its like hes always trying to convince himself it's not so bad but he hates it all. |
