Whose fault is it that I can't trust anymore? The Sun talks skillfully, bringing in choices that look good on the outside but are just dead ends The body absorbs it all Even mercy stains the unspoken skin and keeps a secret of those pains that overflow Rot away Without you +++ I believe this stanza may have something to do with Stockholm syndrome - whether it would relate to the rest of the song, I've no idea! But the loss of trust in the first line, and the sweet words of the sun that only appear good? Perhaps this is the sunlight this captive finally sees after being set free.... But only the words of his/her captor are trustworthy or sweet? I believe the "mercy [which] stains the unspoken skin" is the mercy given the captive from the captor; either through letting this captive go and/or not raping him/her. Perhaps the "unspoken skin" refers to the captive being a virgin? "Unspoken" as a metaphor for skin that cannot speak of having had sex, or "unspoken [for]" skin meaning that no other can say that they have had sex with this captive. And then of course, this captive rots without the perceived love of his/her captor. Looking at the song again, maybe the meaning I get from it does apply to the rest of it. Hopefully I even have the Stockholm Syndrome correct, but I don't know all the details. And wow I've written a lot, but I love these guys, and their songs are cryptic as hell but have all sorts of bits of meaning all over the place. |
