i think that this song is about the realization of falling out of love with a person "i couldnt feel a heart beat" "where the hell did that loving feeling go?". Maybe still likes the idea of the lover "im not in love with you im in love with what we do" pretty straight forward, i think. not sure where the dogs barking and the police sirens came from... but its all good :) |

"pack up i've strayed" she cheated on him. consequently he is leaving. "wait...i love you" she doesnt want him to go. "maps" and "they dont love you like i love you" hes turning to his maps (literally) to find a way out of the relationships and shes apologizing in the "they dont love you like i love you" if you watch the emotions she shows in her face in the music video they are those of sorrow, loss, and anger (and a little intensity?) she is sad sorry and scared to lose him. maybe |

lol. i might be totally off. but what if this isnt about relationships and something simpler. i knida like the idea of them some friends putting their house on the market haha but seriosuly i think it probably about her and her friends man cheating together. maybe she wants to hid it because she knows how it will effect her friend but the man wants to bring it out in the open. down boy. count me down could be like count me out. |

Maybe, just maybe it isn't about sex at all. Maybe Pins represent Societal repression or expectations i think for this song you really have to take the music video into consideration since it is the artists interpretation of the song. The whole idea of being bugs in boxes could be translated into people. Maybe a Societal view. that Society puts us in box (or a mold) and she doesnt want to fit into. In the beginning they are being viewed through the wings of the butterfly in a glass box. this may set up the video so that the viewer can see the mold society expects them to fill. then you go inside and its dark and harsh. She is experiencing physical pain from the "pins" that are being stuck in her. a beautiful butterfly in a box secured with pins could be expressing Emotional pain. the butterfly is dead... when she breaks out of the box and gets away from the expectations she attached to an ugly bug. this could symbolize a romantic relationship but more likley its just a personal relationship. but the mechanical arms (societal repression) throw the pins into her and the other ugly bugs (friends) and trap her back in the box. she she "[doesnt] wanna go back in". this is just kind of a ramble. but i think there might be some validity to it. |
