A Perfect Circle – The Package Lyrics 17 years ago
I thought this song was about sex, too.

"Clever got me this far, then tricky got me IN" (sexual hinting, anyone?)
"Time to feed the Monster" ("The Hollow" immediately came to mind.)
"Comfort is a mystery coming out of my own skin" (sexually physical gratification. He's calling it a mystery because he doesn't really want to delve into WHY he's addicted to sex, he just WANTS it.)

And the word "lie" can be taken two ways: Verbal dishonesty, or the act of lying down (sex), as in: "Lie to get what I came for / Lie to get what I need now / Lie to get what I'm craving."

And the "Give this to me, Mine, mine, mine," parts toward the end sound like he's moaning and groaning, as though he is engaging (or WAS engaging) in sexual intercourse.

Idk, but either way, whether it's drugs or not, this song is awesome.

Something I completely love about this song is how the music perfectly brings out the destructive but powerful feeling that the words evoke.

Destroyed
Collected
Addicted
Breaking
Away

I've been reading up a lot of comments that say it's about "Bush and America." While I admit that it makes perfect sense, I think it's interesting how some people brought up "parental love" as well.

I think we can agree that this album was about addictions. That's extremely clear.

LOL I just had this random thought that it might pertain to parental obsessive behavior over their children--which can apply to everything, of course.

A Perfect Circle – Magdalena Lyrics 17 years ago
Violent Retard--- first off, to tell us to "just stop writing mindless theories" beats the purpose of us commenting on this site in the first place. And the fact that you say that its' "Magdalena" and not "Magdalene" is completely redundant. Like NewAgegnostic said, Magdalena was "just one of many names for her."

You want us to open our minds? While you're at it, open yours... and as for what you said about all of the names, I don't think Maynard would disappoint us by crypting up with names restricted to people in his life. The point of all of this is that he left it up for interpretation, and that INCLUDES prostitutes, strippers, Jesus and the Bible.

You'd be surprised how relevant some of this stuff is. This song's incredible, yes, but in many different ways.

A message for humanity, but, like natej said, a lot darker!
I personally like this version of the song, and it annoys me that so many people just complain about how the other version was better. They need to get over it. We know it's a cover--so what? =\

Watching somebody self-destruct or hurt themselves as a result of peer pressure or forces.

"Mistook their nods for an approval" could be referring to the mistake she made--she misunderstood something, or took signals the wrong way, and ended up harming herself.

It's true that he regrets her mistake, or that he hates the thought of it, which is why he'd rather "keep things in the shallow end--" By shallow, he might mean that he's not willing to take the plunge and go deep with her problem, or really make any moves to help her (which is pretty self-explanatory).

But while he doesn't help her, it doesn't exactly mean he CAN'T. And I find that very disturbing.
