Guy Clark – Desperados Waiting for a Train Lyrics 9 years ago
This song is about Guy's grandmother's boyfriend and Guy's relationship to him.

It seems to me that the lyrics reflect a type on man with a sort of desperado style bravaura, but without a sense of purpose or direction. Machismo without an outlet, like .

There's perhaps some sort comparison here, the old man is waiting for death, the young man waits to have his life.

Antony and the Johnsons – Fistful of Love Lyrics 13 years ago
I'm really suprised SuiSamurai's comments weren't taken more seriously. Why would Anthony Hegarty not be talking about a S&M style relationship involving whipping and fisting? I think it the most unexplored explanation as the subjects are taboo. It's also pretty disturbing for many people to think about a loving relationship which has an physical abuse and psychological degradation involved. It certainly it is for me to consider those things. We need to accept and explore this though: that is genuinely how some people feel fulfilled sexually.

That said, lets have a look at this possible meaning. It's a simple tale of how someone feels in this relationship and how they look at their lover and relate to them.

Even in this guise, the lyric provides so many metaphors for our relationships with those who abuse us physically and mentally, for those we've left behind and those whose abuses we endure because of their and our love.

An incredible song with so many interpretations. I get the idea though that those who get a strong emotion from the song are experiencing something similar to each other, something about loss, sadness and beauty. Really hard to pin down, but very powerful.

The Sisters of Mercy – Dominion/Mother Russia Lyrics 15 years ago
"Just in case anybody needed a helping hand with this one, a heavily re-mixed version of Dominion was entitled Ozymandias and included on the limited edition box-set 12" and cassette of Dominion."

Not to dispute the Shelley reference here, but to add an extra tidbit, the track Ozymandias which follows on from Dominion on the 12" is Dominion backwards played backwards with some extra Sax on it. The almost remarkable thing about playing Dominion backwards is that it one section sounds a bit like someone is saying "ozymandias", it's not clear enough that this coincidence would ever have been noticed had the Shelley reference not been present in the original song, but this surely the reason for the title of this track.
